As a veteran, my first instinct is to talk to people with service medals and patches, if I feel they are being dishonest, or if I feel that they never served, I simply walk away. Let them pretend that they are something that they are not, we all know the truth, and so do they.

I dont like stolen Valor at all! I believe these assholes NEED to be outed and if it was legal, a good ass kicking! My husband was in Nam. He is 18 yrs older than me, and I wasnt aware of until I got interested in history in jr high that the Vietnam Vets were treated so horribly when they came home! I come from a military and Law Enforcement family.
My husband is bedridden and in diapers because of agent orange. I am so angry about this, that if I saw someone using the military to get free stuff or accolades, I wouldnt be nice at all. I would however, make sure this person is faking it first! Like the douche bags that claim they were in Nam, but when you add up how old they are, they couldnt have been there, then, I go to town in a verbal assault. It's unfortunate on both sides. Make sure these are assholes, not victims. My hubby got into his dress blues for our wedding day, even though he had been retired 14 years. He lost the weight, but put it back on with extra. He has a shadow box with alot of his memories. He wears a hat or tshirt stating hes a Nam Vet. Bumper sticker too. Im proud of him. It took him a long time to feel comfortable wearing something stating he was in Nam or even a retired Airforce Master Sgt. I dont believe these Marines didnt do more due diligence. But the act of shaming someone that is committing stolen valor should be punished

Stealing Valor is just as wrong as impersonating an Officer and that is punishable by time in jail. Our Military protects our freedoms within and beyond our borders shouldn't they get the respect deserved and not be taken advantage of by the common populace.

While visiting Family in Nicaragua last summer I ran into 4 expats, all claimed some DOD background while drinking at the Mango Rosa. Three of them were posers the fourth was the real deal. I just listened, it was enough for me to know and they knew I knew. I felt kinda sorry for the three liars. There is so much to be offended by these days.... at this stage of the game I just wanna enjoy the fact I'm still upright and ventilating. CPL Al Brewster USMC, Lt Col Al Brewster USAF (ret)
