It seems to me a lot of people prefer location rather than anything else when considering a new duty location i.e. Hawaii or Germany.

SSG Rios,

my preference when I was new in the Army as you know was "location, location, location," now that I am married and have children I look at what benefits pertain to my family as you well know you may not be in that location for to long and your family may be there for the duration of a deployment or other reason without you.  Now luckily my family is from Germany and my wifes family is also from Germany so therefore I prefer Germany over most locations.  However I do discuss with my spouse over what is available if Germany is not and where she would be comfortable living.

SSG Rios,

I have always looked for career progression, then location. Not necessary the best for the family as a whole but none the less my branch has been good to me.

When thinking about your next duty station, what factors do you consider for wanting that certain duty station?

Being a glutton for punishment, I always wanted the next duty assignment to be home for a school that I wanted. It's a lot easier to get Air Assault when you are at Fort Campbell. Good luck trying to NOT go to the school....lol.

I still have my 1999 printing of "The Sabalauski Air Assault Handbook".

What it can offer you and your career, is its mission what you want, can you get any schools while there??? will it be all it can be for you to be all you can be???

LOL, I think that in a lot of cases the "anywhere but here" thought process comes into play.
