Ok .. so we haven't seen or heard anything on the deserter Bowe Bergdahl since what April of this year when the NCIS investigation findings were released..? When is this piece of crap deserter (responsible for the deaths of several of his platoon who went out looking for him), going to see the inside of a military court room for his crimes...?

When will Bowe Bergdahl be court martialed?

The Vietnam deserter, Robert Garwood's trial is the closest comparaison that can be made. Garward returned to US Control in March of 1979. His actual courtmartial started in March of 1980 and was Completed in Feb 1981. While the elapsed time was 11 months from start to finish of the trial, Him changing civilian counsel and other delays drew proceedings out. The actual time in court was 3 months.
From the time of his return until he was found guilty and sentenced Garwood was in US Custody about 24 Months passed. Bergdahl Has been in our hands 23 months and his trail hasn't even started.

Why bother with a Court Martial if the court of public opinion has already decided?

Sgt Mitchell Sporar That implies a fair trial, and the assumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Fair trial, yes. Assumptions .. well .. whatever. You know as well as i do Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS there is no "innocent until proven guilty" in the military. Accusations (in the form of formal charge sheets) are typically regarded as truth in their statements and account whether it be for NJP or Courts Martial and the accused is usually backed into a corner and must "prove innocence" regardless.

With regards to Bowe Bergdahl, the courts martial NEEDS TO happen. All evidence and testimonies for (however little there may be) and against must become a matter of review-able military record and Bergdahl must receive his legal judgement (and sentencing if applicable).

Although I agree a Court Martial needs to take place, your original phrasing is heavily biased against him getting a fair trial. I get that. "If" he is did what we was accused, then there should be repercussions. However, the public (including us) at large only has a small piece of the overall picture, which is constantly being manipulated by the media and the "spin doctors."

There are many who are quick to condemn him, but will back others who are accused of other transgressions in the military. Charge sheets are just that, charge sheets, and sometimes prosecutors get it wrong. Sometimes the investigators just want to close a case.

We are doing EVERYONE a disservice by jumping on the "hang him high" bandwagon before he has even gone to trial.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS , i make no bones about it .. i clearly believe he's a deserter. I'm not hiding from that at all. Additionally, the NCIS has already released its findings on him (back in April) which claimed there is clear evidence Bergdahl was “going over to the other side with a deliberate plan,” and that ultimately his goal was to communicate with "Russian organized crime".

This says nothing of the fact that his desertion directly led to the deaths of several in his platoon that went looking for him, on orders. So yeah, i have a "hang em high" opinion of him.

That said, the only way he'll ever get "his side" out there for the world to hear is through the judicial process. Quite frankly, as one who has no say in the process, i do want to hear what excuse he has for himself. I don't see it changing my opinion. But, this badge of shame upon the US Military needs to be exercised and brought to a close.
