Got out of the Marine Corps as an E3. I am now in the Army Reserves and meet the time in grade and time in service requirements to get Specialist however I enlisted as an E3.

Since no one pointed out to you yet, the answer is in AR 600-8-19 Enlisted Promotions. Your time in grade from the Marine Corps does not count for your date of rank, and you can find that information in AR 600 - 20 Army command policy.
You will need to learn and know the enlisted promotion regulation inside and out in order to help your soldiers with their promotions in the future. Good luck

I appreciate all the references SFC. I've been writing them down as you mention them to help me study and learn this new branch. Completely different than the Corps. For the most part.

SPC (Join to see) it's a whole lot bigger and insanely diverse. It's like if you took the Marines and Navy combined and had to make one set of rules to apply to everyone. That's why some rules you'll see won't make sense to you, they have to apply to everyone from the grunt in a combat unit to the nurses in hospitals to the random peope attached to a joint command in an austere location.
Just focus on taking care of your Soldiers while working steadily on self development and you will excel in the Army.

I could be wrong but I don't think your E-3 time in the USMC applies to your Army time. So your TIG begins the day you re-entered the Army. You'll need 18 months TIG before you get promoted to SPC.

Not sure if you are correct either. But my dfas pay stub says my original time in grade from the marine corps and not from the army. I transitioned this year from the usmc

It's as early as 18mths with a waiver or 24mths automatic. Some where in between that. Good luck and welcome to the culture shock.

Not sure since I haven't been a specialist in so long but I think you are right that they're sort of is an Unwritten order of Merit list. Those PFC that stand out get promoted sooner to specialist. Wouldn't hurt to also apply for Soldier of the battalion and go in front of a board. You're going to go in front of a board anyway when you try to make sergeant.

While you wait, do your best in PT, have all your mandatory training on the way or get started now that it's the first of October. Take any schools you can and make yourself stand out. Not that this applies to you, but I knew a PFC that was in my civil affairs unit and he made sergeant in two or three years because he took all the schools and everything that was offered to him.

SPC (Join to see) also try to take some college courses. Ncos with college courses and try to get an associates degree. Not sure if you want to make sergeant major or if you ever want to go Commission green to gold, but the more school you have as an NCO, the better your chances in the more points you get. Not sure what your long-term goals are. By the way, if you get bored with your MOS, some civil affairs units offer Airborne school, air assault and language training at the language school in Monterey at Fort Ord. Thanks for taking my suggestions. As a marine, there should be a cakewalk for you to be Standing Tall and looking good.

How about Specialist? Stay away from “E-Grades“. It translates better.

SPC (Join to see) i truly meant that in a kind and mentoring way. Words can be taken out of context. Please do not let the next rank and position be your last goal. Best wishes brother-in-arms.

SGM (Join to see) I read it as such SGM. And it won't be. I have many goals that far surpass Specialist. I just want to get to a position where I can help people.

If you meet TIG/TIS then your promotion should of been pretty much automatic. You should talk to your squad leader and platoon sergeant to see if something is holding you back. They many be able to influence a wavier or you may have something wrong with paperwork. It is always important to get your NCOs fighting for you to make things happen.
