When you first found out that you were going to be deployed to a combat zone, what was your reaction?

FINALLY! It took me almost 7 1/2 years to get on one. I was exstatic! It was a great experience that has helped shape the leader I am now.

Finally is the word. Joined the Corps for action. 3 with Arty, 1 with airwing, then pcs'd to a MEU for 3. Forward life was what I aimed for. Just couldn't get it. I wouldn't want to be support, if I couldn't train and strap up for mission. I said fuck you and get me out.

I deployed to Iraq in April of 2003, we all knew what to expect and why we were going. I was, and still am, proud to serve my country at war and in peace time. It wasn't the best of times, but I, like many of my fellow soldiers, were doing what we had trained for years to do.. It wasn't NTC or JRTC, it was real life, real bullets, but none of that changed anyone's mind.
