When you retire, are you supposed to get a certificate?

I was medically retired on 2017 after nine years of service. I have a DD214 on 2012

When I was medically retired at 20 years, I got my DD214 and a flag in a cardboard box. I did not care. I was so ready to leave the army post. Do you get retirement pay from the DoD each month?

I may be wrong but I think you were medically chaptered as opposed to medically retired.

The DD214 is the official retirement record. If your unit didn’t request ceremonial certificates then you’re probably not getting them.
