So, option three is true, but doesn't answer the question posed so isn't really an option for me. I think that the people are more fearful of the government than the government is of the people. I say the people are a 6-7 in fearing the government, whereas the government is a straight 0 in fearing the people.

Concur- sadly concur MAJ Bryan Zeski What I see is servants of the people have become rulers of the people. I have been trying harder the older I get to watch and learn during the election- then see who follows through. I had one guy in my district the only time I saw him was during election season. We had this discussion when he was door knocking. I went through each of his stances- then we went through what he actually did. I told him I like what you say, but you are a true politician and do the opposite and take zero accountability for not doing it. Always a reason. He knew when he left that my vote was not in his pocket. But- one guy one minute. Zero collateral damage to him.

People do tend to fear the Government and abuse of power or excessive regulation. The press also contributes more than their share to promote the abuses like somehow they are correct even when they are not. What brings things under control when people instead of accepting what is wrong stand up for themselves to retain their rights. What Thomas Jefferson said applies just as strongly now as it did then and unless His warning is heeded Governnemt will get out of control.
