Where can I find unit award orders that authorize me to wear them?

Most units have some sort of display that showcases the unit awards. You are authorized to wear the award(s) while a member of the unit. If you were a member of the unit during the actual award, then the award becomes part of your permanent authorization and you would have received the orders at the time of award. Your S1 should be able to assist more

S-1 should have it, if there are no older S-1 members, check HRC, and if you run into problems there ask your Unit Historian, if you don't have one check your Lineage and Honors.
That's my 2-cents.

If I understand your question, as written, you cannot wear any ribbon until you have your personal documentation that it was presented to you, in most cases, that being your DD-214. Many years ago, I discovered that my ship had received two medals, one for Viet Nam and one for South Korea, while I served aboard her. I had to write to the Navy Department to claim what was rightfully mine, and have my DD-214 updated/amended. Then I could wear them legally.

That's not the case anymore. if you are with a unit that receives a unit award there is no presentation ceremony. it is not a personal award. if the unit awards message states that he rates it, he can wear it. all that he has to show is that he was actually with the unit at the time of the action. it's easy for Marines, because we keep detailed records of deployments. not sure how good army admin is though.

In the Navy I think it was OPNAVINST 1650 but I have no Idea what it is in the army.

First place to go for that should be the S-1 and then ask a unit member that has been around for awhile

Due to limited resources we are currently only posting recently approved valor decorations (PUCs and VUAs). All orders will eventually be posted at a future date.
