Where do you practice and train for civilian competive shooting? On base or off?

I am looking for ways to expand the sport shooting community within the military. This will be the first of several questions I will be asking over the next few weeks and months.

1. On base. We have good access to the ranges or we have a good Rod & Gun Club.

2. On and off base. There are good shooting venues around our area.

3. Off base only. We do not have range access or have a good Rod & Gun Club.

4. Off base because I live off base and do not want to register all my weapons.

5. Not on or off base...yet...because I do not know what is available.

When shooting on base, I normally use that time for target practice for my rifle and shotgun and maybe some pistol shooting with the kids. As for competitive shooting, I had a place in SC that I would regularly go to and that offered more options when practicing reactive shooting. There are too many rules when trying to do IDPA style shooting on-post, however, it can be accomplished if you get there early.
