On the EIB site, test week at Ft. Bragg, one of my soldiers was on his cell phone at an unauthorized time looking three shades lighter than his Latino complexion should have allowed, he couldn't answer when I asked him what was wrong, he just put his mother on speaker phone (he was from NY) & we all gathered around him until the order was given moments later to move to the company area.  The 82nd totally got snubbed on that, hanging out on 2 hour recalls, visits to the PHA, didn't move past green ramp for almost a year.  That still burns.

I was stationed at US Central Command when 9/11 occurred.  Needless to say, that combatant command went from a quiet 4-star HQ to the center of attention overnight. I was on the command briefing team as a young captain.

I just got home from PT at Ft. Drum, NY and saw the news. While I was watching the second plane hit the tower. I knew my life would be changed forever. In a few short months we were boots on the groung in AFG.

Yes I am experienced, I was stationed at Fort Drum NY in 710th MSB. I was a 1SG and I was on my way back to work after personal hygiene from PT. I remember vividly tuning into the TV at the unit watching for hours of what had transpired that morning everybody was in shock and dis belief. That is a day I will always remember and never forget for as long as I live.

I was honorably discharged from the Army as of 4 September 2001. I was so pissed off that I went to a recruiter. It took me about two months, but I went to MEPS, took the ASVAB again (same exact score), and joined the Reserves. After I was mobilized in support of OEF, I ended up in the AGR program, where I still am now.

Not in the military at the time, but still very tied to the events of that day.

I live in Northern Virginia and work in Washington DC. I was running late that morning and as always listening to the radio on the way to work.  I heard the news of the first plane into WTC and new something was very wrong.  I grew up and worked in NY; I knew a commercial jet was not supposed to be anywhwere near WTC and that it was an exceptionally clear day on the east coast.  Also I worked in NYC in 1993 and had teh stark memory of the cloud of smoke coming from WTC from the parking garage bombing. Got word of the 2nd plane into WTC just as I drove by the Pentagon. At that point clearly new we were under attack.

Got into work and went straight into a meeting on the 11th floor of our HQ building.  Standing in the back of the room looking out windows directly towards National Airport and the Pentagon.  Saw the streak of the plane coming in and then the large fireball and black smoke cloud that erupted on the far side of the Pentagon.  A few seconds later the shock from the blast rattled the building and windows.

The rest of the day was a blur; just getting everyone out and implementing are COOP at the alternate location. A month later i was in the middle of the Antrax attack and led the response / cleanup effort for the following two years.

I was in my office at the prison, Lorain Correctional Institution. The Chief of Security burst into my office and ordered me up the Warden's office immediately. On the way up he told me a plane had the world trade center. I got there soon enough to see some replays then the 2nd plane hit. I looked at the Warden and told him we just went to war with whoever just did this. 5 years later I was back in boots on my way to Afghanistan.
