Medalsofhonor
There are 325 triple CIB Infantrymen, and 3,471 Medal of Honor Recipients.
Are there any other medals or badges that have been awarded fewer times than the Medal of Honor?

I don't want to denigrate any MOH recipients and I'm fuzzy with the history, but were they awarded at a higher rate during the civil war for perhaps less extreme measures than they are today?

Yes, definitely. I believe it was the only Valor award at the time. I've heard boxes of them were handed out to units as reenlistment incentives.

SPC Elijah J. Henry, MBA - I would be interested to know how many were awarded once it started becoming more and more rare.

I believe about half of the Medals of Honor were awarded in the Civil War and I think it was a few decades later that there were more Valor awards added and the criteria were tightened.

The elusive Master Gunner badge that so many "stuck in mechanized forever" soldiers want.

My plt sgt was a master gunner. I enjoyed sitting in the gun, but never had a desire to go to the school.

Army Nuclear Reactor Badge seems to be pretty rare, I know of no one who ever had it.

Got it; I couldn't believe they wanted to put it up with the Bronze Star.

I understand some drone pilots have PTSD from their duties; I feel for those who are suffering, but the fact is that these operators were not in harm's way, went home every night, etc. Certainly not the same as being in the theater of combat...

I agree, plus I feel like we already have enough awards, do we really need a special one for everyone?

SGT James Elphick -
We already do have "an award for everybody who serves", it's the A.S.R.!
