Since many of us have the opportunity to travel the world and visit historic battlefields, which sites would you say have been the most memorable for you? For me, it has to be Belleau Wood with a good Marine buddy of mine, and the site where the 3rd Infantry Division adopted the nickname, ''Rock of the Marne'' in Mezy, France.

I have been lucky enough to go around the world with the Air Force but the Viet Nam Wall has to be the most memorable for me. Have relatives and friends that fought there and the brother of a friend that died there.

My most memorable was Iwo Jima. The Japanese government only allowed about fifteen Marines on the island twice a year as it is considered sacred in Japan. Standing on the beach looking at the terrain you could clearly see how the Marines were caught in fire from three venues and blocked by the water behind.

Gettysburg runs a close second. Again high ground played a major part as well as grave tactical mistakes.

I spent a couple years attached to the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Merrill Barracks, the former German SS Barracks. You could see where they removed some of the SS symbols. Also, it was right next to the stadium where Hitler had his famous rally's. Found that interesting.

Tons of places in Europe that the Americans liberated. It is hard to pick one.

Haha, for a second I thought your profile pic was really you. Jim looks like a typical soldier from the late 80's early 90's in that movie.

No, I don't have a picture in my former dress uniform. It would seem that on the few occasions when I dressed formally there were no cameras around (Grin). The one picture I would love to have, was when we went to a formal party (Dress Whites with sword) to meet the Spanish Admiral. The XO was so afraid that I would do or say something wrong that he hid me behind a big Palm tree plant in the corner of the officer's club and went to get the Admiral. He cautioned me very sternly not to start any conversation. When the Admiral arrived, I saluted, we shook hands, and as the XO turned to leave, The Admiral said, "So tell me, what is your specialty in the ship's ordnance?" The look of horror on the XO's face was a picture, I would have liked to put in my Navy album!!!! (Grin!!)

As the son and nephew of WWII former POWs, I would say Andersonville, Ga., home of the National POW Memorial.

I have been to a few historically significant battle sites, all of them gave me the feeling of standing on sacred ground.
Gettysburg
Pearl Harbor
Little Bighorn
Chipyong-ni, Korea
I hope someday to visit the Normandy Beaches and Bastogne.

I was stationed at Schofield Barracks back in the early 90s...the Arizona Memorial was always a solemn place for me. Back then a lot of the Pearl Harbor survivors were plentiful and I loved hearing the stories of that infamous day...!
