Define authentic. Both are based on POV (Point of View). Indeed, it may be argued that all media is "social" media". Every 'report" is akin to looking through the viewfinder of a camera held by someone else. Thus, you have too walk around looking through many of these cameras, building a composite image, until you have some appreciation for the "truth". Also, remember that each view is a snapshot in time. It is a fragment of a story that began long ago. Without looking at past views (history), you will always have an incomplete picture.

outstanding response the media thru its infinite wisdom can take that one moment in time and twist it by omitting pieces and adding others to make it good or bad, its up to us to filter thru this and decide what is truth or bs, so you can believe the far right or left until you actively put the pieces together until then you are still blinded to the truth

It has always been my opinion the journalists/reporters should report the facts, and leave their emotions out of it- it is up to the reader to come up with their own conclusions. If I want their emotions or their opinion, I will read the "Dear Abby" or the entertainment section of the paper. I am not a blind sheep(le) and refuse to be led by the nose like one. I can formulate my own opinions, I don't need to be spoon fed- thank you very much. Maybe if the media, both print and social would realize that fact, they might not feel so alienated, or have their integrity questioned. js

You need to state source of print or web. Is Trumps twitter history authentic? Cause that's the real "news". The rest is of course "fake news". The real issues are lost in the tangential discourse of the news cycle.

The print media is more traditional, has been around much longer and thus has a more authentic feel than social media. In the past, the print media was supposed to represent a neutral view of an event. However, that has not always been the case. There are many times in the past (Yellow Journalism) where print media had lost its way.
Social media is all about ones opinion. Which often differ from individual to individual.
My answer, would be that nowadays, both the print media and social media have evolved to be essentially the same.

I have trouble with the original question. Why are only those two options offered, leaving the electronic media(radio and television) left out of the mix. IMHO, the name of 'social media' gives a clear explanation of just what it is. Shoot-from-the-hip opinions fired from a laptop or phone and launched onto the screens of uncountable numbers. Print media(their websites included) and radio and TV news I feel require more construction than splashing out a tweet or Facebook post.

Amazing! A plurality believes the printed press that has been favorable to the left for decades. The delivery is reliable, read what is printed "with a suspension of disbelief", double check everything reported.

The print media winds up being more accurate overall because there are still some decent editors out there that hold the article writer to certain standards. eMedia has nowhere near that standard. So the trick is to find sources that actually produce product to a decent standard. Good luck.

sir I have to disagree print media as well as tv and radio media its about ratings, and what sells, whether the article is factual, well over the years we have found that many writers have f'd up, fabricated their stories just to get it to print and boost sales, back in the day yes there were many great journalist on all spectrums, but today its money driven despite the truth
