I'm starting a business to help wounded veterans. I have searched for days to find a non-profit organization that focuses on wounded veterans. I narrowed it down to four nonprofits. So I need your help! Which of these non profit organizations will you give to and why?

As someone who works in the military/veteran nonprofit space for Project Sanctuary (http://www.projectsanctuary.us), I understand the mission and value of each of these organizations. Without a doubt, Fisher House is the premier nonprofit among these choices. Their mission, financials, and proven results separate them from the other organizations.

SPC P K, nice analysis with your research. Yes, the cost is just over $3,000 per family for a retreat. This year we are hosting 20 retreats so we're very busy. And, yes, it is one great therapeutic event for the whole family!

All of them, they all do so much good in numerous ways and with different groups involved in caring for soldiers and their families.

SGT Willie Tubbs, I appreciate your enthusiasm and desire to give back to wounded veterans. Thanks for that - as it's extremely important to serve and honor those who have sacrificed for our country.
I would like to offer two suggestions.
#1 Don't start your own non-profit. Hopefully, this doesn't sound harsh, but the reality is, you're going to be one of tens of thousands who have the same desire and drive; however, lack the necessary resources to be truly effective. Look for an organization that aligns with what you want to do and then see if you can partner in your location.
#2 Consider Project Sanctuary or our Texas-based affiliate, Healing our Heroes Project (http://www.hohproject.org) as someone to work with to achieve your desired results.

LTC Jason Strickland, first of all thank you for your feedback. I consider all suggestions beneficial to my plan of action. I'm starting a for-profit business for wounded veterans. Something like Blake Mycoskie did with TOMS. But the difference will be given a percentage towards a non-profit of choice. I may have to talk to you about Project Sanctuary and Healing our Heroes Project. Thanks once again for your comment!

SGT Willie Tubbs Both LTC Jason Strickland and I can give you insight on achieving your need to help our wounded military families. Collaboration will be key. Think about what you would need from an organization to get on board with their mission. Feel free to email me [login to see] I'll respond with my cell number. We are reaching a lot of military families and the impact has been unheard of. I want to hear from you. http://www.hohproject.org

I concur...

There are 40+K VSOs and thousands in the wounded warrior space. You could better serve the community in helping to grow the reach of those already there.
