My two older sisters and I joined the military to get away from the abusive man my Mom married. We got way more than we positive that made us stronger women who didn't put up with crap from men, and still don't!

My Uncle was killed in Vietnam in 1967 when I was Seven. I decided then to grow up and replace him in the Army. I enlisted in 1980 and served nearly 35 years, retired in 2015.

I was most inspired by CSM James A. Coffman, who was the SAI in my JROTC detachment in high school. CSM Coffman was a soldier's soldier who jumped on Corregidor with the 503d PIR in WWII, fought in Korea with the 187th PIR, and saw action in Vietnam before he retired.

It was simply expected in my family. Father, one grandfather, multiple uncles and both brothers

Very simple, I was in the first draft and posted a 39. I thought that was pretty good. I didn't know squat. That first year you had to post a 240 or better. I was in college with a 2S deferment and was bored to death. After two years of college I enlisted just like my Father, a Battle of the Bulge survivor, and my brother, a veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Never regretted that decision.
