The pressing influence that tripped my trigger was my dear old Uncle Sam... I was drafted July 5, 1967

My good buddies Dad was a very big influence on me going into the Navy. He was a retired RMCM. Best advice I ever had.

Very cool. My dad and 5 uncles were WWII guys, all grew into very fine and honorable fathers, uncles and role models... but it was Uncle Sam that "got" me.

Way back in the stone age, 1962, I was a senior in college, unmarried, and not an education major, and the peace corp had not been invented, so I was # in the draft list in Peoria, IL. I went to the Army recruiter to see what I could do. Since my majors in college were, Sociology, Psychology, and Math he suggested that I enlist in the Army Security Agency for three years instead of taking pot luck in the draft for two years. I did and was glad I did. I became a Korean Linguist - 16 months in Seoul, South Korea. Good duty.

My dad, he was a Cold War Era Ranger, 6th Ranger Co, 1st ID, and my favorite teacher in HS, he was Nam Marine and helped me get my shit back together when my dad passed away.
I WAS DRAFTED...IF YOU COULD MAINTAIN AN A AVERAGE IN COLLEGE, YOU COULD BEAT THE DRAFT...
