Who is looking forward to the brand new change for Army enlisted promotions coming up in June 2024 for the ranks of SGT-MSG!?

And what are your thoughts about it?
- promotion to SGT required no PME
- promotion to SSG requires BLC
- promotion to SFC requires ALC
- promotion to MSG required SLC

If all that is the case, then why are they planning to wipe out temporary promotions?

I was thinking the same thing SGM Frazer. It mentions in the article that about 50% of promotions to SFC/MSG are temporary promotions. Way I see it, it’ll just remain the same promotion numbers wise, but will not be considered a temporary promotion after June. Maybe has something to do with a percentage of temporarily promoted SM’s not being able to make it to their previously required PME due to deployments, family obligations such as birth of a child, compassionate reassignments, etc. Regardless, I’m sure this makes a good amount of SSG’s without an SLC date a little happy inside. To include myself!

Theoretically this shouldn’t affect later promotions as much as you’re thinking, because the PME is still required for advancement. Really all this means is the temporary promotions from the last year no longer have a deadline to make their PME. I think SMAs intent is to give these NCOs the visual confirmation (ie stripes) of their position, and not punish them for the continual backlog at PME courses. Ultimately, they still need it if they intend to continue their career. The timing is just less critical.

That is absolutely ridiculous. Promoting a person without the proper knowledge and or experience. The entire military is already dropping standards. All standards. Education, physical, and on top of that my commander may be a female who thinks she is a cat or dog. 45 years ago when I was a recruiter if you smoked pot you would be sent to sent for a psychiatric appointment when you were at MEPS. Now you can be an obese man who thinks she is a pregnant women and still get in. The military as a whole is all screwed up. God help us in case of a real war.
