Do you think government employees and elected officials have forgotten who they work for?

If the People were educated on the Constitution says (not paraphrased) and understood their role/responsibility in the system, I KNOW we would be in a better place.

Amen Sir. Sadly, LTC (Join to see) I think there are too many people who fear people knowing the truth. At the end of the day, there was a reason why we took/take an oath to defend the Constitution and not a person, position or group of people.

I have no question that politicians and bureaucrats know exactly who they work for. The bureaucrats work for the incumbents who pay them (craft and administer the budget) and the incumbents work for We the People who elect them. The fact that we reelect them with incomprehensible regularity serves to reinforce their impression that we approve of the job they are doing. Can anyone possible argue with that?

One of the biggest problems is that they know who has bought them but forgotten who they represent. MAYBE it is time for the people to take back OUR government and Nation.

MSG Brad Sand - It seems that We the People can't help ourselves and keep reelecting the same culprits thus giving them the illusion that we approve. Sadly, I'm coming around to the view that we need freedom of choice limited via Term Limits.

I don't think many understand the premise of their jobs is based on the Constitution. I used to run into it when it came to spending money on contracts. Non-appointed staff would commit the VA to purchases that violated the Anti-Deficiency Act and then would get angry when their supervisor would charge them with a disciplinary action. The Constitution delegates authority very explicitly. It was understanding this process that was awe-inspiring to me, how some 227 years ago, when it was finally ratified that our forefathers had the wherewithal to detail the process. Many in our federal system today seem to think that our forefathers' thinking is outdated, not up with the times. I struggle to agree.

LTC (Join to see) The people who are not working understand who to vote for, it works every time! They also understand what the 'D' next to a candidate's name implies.

I think some military members forget their place. Don't take it wrong, I mean that we work for the Civilian Elected Officials (President). President George Washington set the tone that we are servants of the people. If we want real Authority, run for office.

You may want to reread the oath you took on enlistment. Also, the elected and appointed officials in our chain of command take similar oaths. The President and all the other elected officials are as much, if not more, servants of the people they represent. We are still, and always have been, a Republic. I think you are right, many have forgotten their place but not in the way you meant it. We are 'the People', when we join the military we take an oath to defend, and bear true faith and allegiance the Constitution of United States of America. Yes, we must absolutely obey the orders of the officers appointed above us BUT we must never confuse those issuing the orders above us with whom we and what we serve.
One my greatest disappointment in recent decades is that so many of those elected and appointed seem to have forgotten their oaths once they are in office or position.

In some cases yes. The highlighted VA problems cone to mind. Why can't we manage with FIRE and dirt out the duds?

Yes they have and decided that they think they know what's best for us even though we don't think the same way.

I know they are not the same. But too often they think alike. In the interest of full disclosure, I am a government employee. I see it every day.
