Wow, GREAT question! Some leaders I wanted to be like, others I couldn't stand and swore I would never make the same leadership mistakes they did. I had a SgtMAJ we nicknamed "country" tough exterior, but had a heart of gold, would go through hell or high water for anyone- great man, great friend, great Marine. One night we were in a bar and he told me "I'd rather have 1 NCO like you that I have to pull back, then have 1000 that I have to push forward"
Then when I was a Sgt, I worked for a MSGT who was the biggest sexist POS that ever walked the planet! Would not listen to anything I said, I had to have a male Marine tell him what I wanted him to know. That went on for about a whole heartbeat before I brought up charges of harassment.

Did he retaliate for bringing him up on charges? I hope you survived the after affects of that action!
Proud you stood up for yourself!!!

PO2 Robert M. - I'm a "scrapper" I won't start a fight, but I won't back don't from one either. He tried to, but I didn't care, so he backed off, and he got transferred. One time we were in 29 Palms, he decided to mess with me (bad move on his part, I've been to the field many times, he seldom was) anyways, I asked him to go get some more white gas for the burners. (We used mogas) by the time he went to the rear, got the WRONG gas carted it back to us, realized he made a mistake and misunderstood what I asked him to get (Cuz I would NEVER send him on a wild goose chase) he was gone the whole day- which was fine with me.
