For me it would have to be my father. I remember when he came home from Vietnam when I was 7. As he was walking through the airport in Kansas City, MO. He was cursed, spit on, called baby killer and all other sorts of vile names. I remember his reaction to all of this. He never lost his military bearing, never spoke, he just looked straight ahead, wrapped his arms around us, gathered his baggage and led us out the door. He is the reason I went into the military. To me he was all that was right with this Country and the World. Rest in Peace dad.

Other than the cliché family/friends that served I would have to go with CPT Boling and say LTG Moore as well as CSM Plumley. Two outstanding examples of dedicated soldiers and great leadership in the military. Also a shout out to COL Crandall who delivered them into the Ia Drang Valley and earned a Medal of Honor for going back to recover the wounded and deceased when the med evacs refused to return.

General John J Pershing aka "Black Jack"
Known to be a great leader early on but remained a Captain for years, do to crony system and senior members refusing to retire. Theodore Roosevelt once met Captain Pershing and said that he was going places. Quite some time later Roosevelt met Captain Pershing again and was startled to see he was still a Captain. Eventually, Captain Pershing was promoted. He led the forces in pursuit of Poncho Villa and led the US Expeditionary Force during WW I.

My personal hero is Medal of Honor Recipient SFC (RET) Ronald E. Rosser. He helped establish the professional Forward Observer MOS for the US Army through his actions during Korea and subsequent term of service until he was retired from the US Army.
I met him during the Skyball XII event held in Dallas, Texas Oct 2014. It was an Honor and Privilege to talk with this Great American and share stories. Thank SFC Rosser for your undying love for this Country and God Bless!
