Who must be killed to defeat ISIS and Al Qaeda?

We kill leader after leader. The high profile targets and each time someone new steps into their place. They change their names (Abu Khalil Al Sudani), to try to hide their identities and still we kill them. They hide (Osama bin Laden) and still we find and kill them. Each time it seems like a victory until the sun rises and then someone new is standing in their place. ISIS is no longer a terrorist organization. It is Political Entity that has an Army and it operates like an organization (company). How do we fight a state? We learn about how it operates and we understand the threat. To defeat ISIS we must destroy it's critical capabilities and the ideology that goes with it. We have to go after the money that is funding it. The people that are living under the feudal reign of ISIS are becoming disenchanted with the idea of fundamental Islam. We need to exploit this.

Follow the money. Take that away and they become ineffectual. Prosecute the sources of their funds.

If we continue the decapitation strikes that may give the replacement pause. Despite the press coverage, these people are not supermen and shouldn't be considered as such.
i have heard several high ranking officers say "We can't kill our way out of this".
ISIS is an idea, we have to combat that idea with strategic information programs keyed to defeating the ideology.
If you can defeat the idea while neutralizing the leadership and command and control elements we just may be able to defeat them.

CPT (Join to see) We have to kill the current leadership and crush the hope out of anyone else who wants to pursue the same path. You have to get the Sunni and Shiite countries to stop the hate against Israel and America. It is possible, look at Turkey and Egypt.

LTC John Shaw Sir, I'm thinking out loud here... Isn't this exactly what they are doing? Killing current leadership and crushing the hope out of anyone who opposes or fails to follow their flavor of Islam. They recently released a video of a mass execution in Syria. They killed more than 160 Syrian government troops. Many of them were young boys.

I don't know who will kill ISIS. The Iraqi army is incompetent, they wont arm the Shia Militias to fight and defend, coalitions forces are far, small, and disparate. Its a big deal when a drone kills 10 insurgents when there are still 40,000 more to go. We are a rudderless ship and the Generals and POTUS don't have the vision to fight insurgencies properly.

Can someone tell me, when was Islam peaceful, certainly not 500 A.D., not 950 A.D., not 1400 A.D., etc., ect., has Islam ever been peaceful or at peace.

Originally the areas like Iraq were primarily Christian and then the Islamic radicals moved in and did then and what they are trying to do now is destroy Christianity and impose sharia law its been a back and forth thing hundreds of years and if you look at history even President Thomas Jefferson had do deal with the Barbary coast pirates and same issues that we now face. Christianity is very strong in the mid east but the people fear that they will be killed because of their beliefs so they stay silent. When I was in Iraq we were making a difference because the people weather they were Muslim or Christian they were pointing out the bad guys and their weapons caches and safe houses. it can be done but our leadership has to have a vision of success and a plan of action that they believe in for accomplishing the mission successfully.

Simultaneously start at the top and bottom. Kill everyone. Wage total war until they are all dead or accept unconditional surrender. Get over the fact that there is going to be collateral damage, it happens in every war. Forget about wanting everyone to like us, we already know that all most others want is our nation's money. Understand that irregardless of what a lot of people are saying, this is WWIII.
