I was talking with a CW5 last week, and he mentioned an interesting fact that the 70K AOC seems to plateau at the level of MAJ in the USAR. It is important to be versatile, but it seems that there is not a strict focus on an end path, nor are individuals encouraged to gain additional AOCs due to "funding". To me, it seems that individuals branch into the 70H level for progression; however, I have noticed that the 70H series tends to neglect the logistics piece of operations. Would it not be beneficial to have someone from the logisitician side in an equal position, or dare I say, a 70K with the secondary AOC of 70H, in charge for Medical Operations? This is just a thought. Any other branches see this type of scenario?

It's been almost thirty years since I was in the USAR, but I had both the H and K. Reason for fewer LTC slots is available is the number of higher commands with 70K LTC slots. It's the same with other branches; Ops always has higher precedence over Log.

Overall MSC field grade requirements increase in the USAR because of the types of units in the force structure. It’s a reverse pyramid compared to the AC (more company grade, fewer field grade) or in the ARNG where very few exist. Here are a few points to frame this. The USAR does not have the fixed facility TDA structure that exists in the Active Component. Another factor is that unit leadership positions became AMEDD immaterial (05A) with the transformation initiatives back in the mid 2000s. There may also be admin MSC immaterial positions that are coded 67A that still are out there.
