Why did you choose to become a commissioned officer; after being an enlisted service member?

I wanted a diverse career and I got it.

Earning my commission Allowed me to climb the social ladder to leave my low income antecedents & to become a respected leader in both civilian & military life.

I was standing in the chow line in AIT at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and say this guy walk right in without having to stand in line. I asked the guy in front of me, how can he do that and he said, "that's the lieutenant." I said that's what I want to be. Didn't realize until I was one, that you had to wait until all your troops ate before you did. I know it sounds silly but hell I was only 18 years old.
