Let me add some context. The reason I ask this is because every member of our armed forces is vital to helping to further the mission of the respected branches. Every member keeps our forces on task and ensures that the freedoms that the American people enjoy are not lost.

With that I am grateful to all our vets for serving this great nation. Take advantage of your well deserved discounts and don't ever feel you aren't worthy of that discount as you are worthy!

I don't think anyone feels they aren't worthy.
I'm not a vet yet - but I don't go seeking any military discounts. If I see one posted, I'll use it. If it's not posted, I don't ask. If they ask me if I'm military I say yes. But I don't seek it and most people I know who are active or vets don't seek it out.

I look at it as - we aren't special. Some may disagree but I chose this path. No one made me. I knew what I was getting into. I think there are jobs that do more than I have done - like teachers or other educators, firefighters, EMTs, etc.

And then there was the draft. As a female Vietnam Vet, obviously, I was not drafted but I was equally discriminated against after Vietnam for 35 years. In 1986 I was fired from a job because they discovered that I was a Vietnam Vet. Recently, DFAS discontinued my 50% of my ex's pension. The lawyer at DFAS who discontinued my 50% is the same lawyer who approved it 4 years ago and that lawyer invented an illegal and trumped up excuse for discontinuing it. I have been awarded this pension by three different judges in three different courts at different court levels within my state. To get this reinstated I am now going to the Supreme Court because I have been given a judgment from every level of Court that exists in my state that can legally hear this case. As a result, while I wait for a court date from the United States Supreme Court, I have taken a new job (I still have bills to pay just like everybody else in America). My new job is in retail as a cashier (corporate America will not hire those of us over the age of 65) and I am currently working 6 days per week, 12 hours per day. I would guess I have perhaps two dozen people per day who ask me for both a senior citizen discount as well as a military discount. If you think for one minute that people 'rarely' ask for a military discount, you could not be more wrong.

SPC Jodi Harbroe - I honestly don't know the point of your rant other than the last sentence.
I'm talking about MY generation rarely asks for it in MY experience. Your experience is not everyone's experience on who asks for a military discount and who doesn't. So you can take your passive aggressiveness and go elsewhere.

Sorry for your troubles but not my fault.

Most (if not all vets) will tell you that we didn't/don't do what we did/do for discounts. Are they nice? Sure. I personally don't actively seek them out. If offered, I will accept. But I will never actively seek them out.

You beat me to it, SFC Livingston. I won't turn one down, but I don't ask for them. I never served for the discounts.

SSgt (Join to see) - I'll ask about one if I'm making a large purchase when I'm doing home improvement projects.

I’ll take it if offered, but when Home Depot says they want a copy of my DD214 I think not. The “veteran” designator on my driver’s license should be more than adequate.

Try Lowes. Once you get in the system they give you a discount card and a bar code you can add to your key chain.
