Why does security now trump liberty? Is this complementary to the values of Founders?

IMO the secret to true security is being able to exercise your liberties freely without being afraid of retribution or in fear for your safety. For the record, I do agree with the quote wholeheartedly.

That is kind of ironic consider TJ was not only a great man and a founding father. He also was a slave owner.

TSgt (Join to see) - I find it ironic that the first slave owner in the colonies was a Black man, he was not referring to that kind of Slavery.
We are a Constitutional Republic the needs of the many dose not out weigh the needs of the few or the one. The trapping of personal Data is a clear violation of the 4th amendment, even a DUI checkpoint is in violation of the Constitution all done for the good of the people (NOT), the road to hell is always paved with good intentions.

TSgt (Join to see) - So what. Slavery was abolished in this country, but it is still rampant in others. Most American slave owners treated their slaves well because that's where their money came from. LBJ reinstituted slavery with his "war on poverty" and enslaved many people, Black and White, to the welfare system and they are still slaves today.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. ~ Benjamin Franklin
The world is not as simple as it was in Franklin's day but is certainly more dangerous. There are those who seek to deprive of us our Constitutional and God-given rights, both foreign and domestic. Exercise your rights and liberties but you must also be vigilant to keep your enemies at bay and your freedom in tact. The Radical Muslim Extremists who wish to destroy us and our way of life are the scourge of the earth. We must be ready to fight them on any grounds...Home or Away. I prefer an Away scenario but but if the battle must be fought at Home, then so be it! Life became more complex for us after 9/11. Stock up, rearm and be ready to fight to the death to preserve our way of life.

Po3 John Wagner, I disagree. They scored some points on 9/11 but they didn't win...nor will they. My God is bigger than the beast they worship.

Today is 5/10/18. Monday (maybe Sunday) Trump said that he was considering the barring of the Washington Post, (You remember, the Watergate people) because fake news may be true but it's just an alternate fact. Seems he and the NRA prefer the second ammendment to the first. Tyrany?

I must be missing something. Preventing people who are coming from a country where many want to kill Americans is a restriction on our freedoms?

Rooster Cogburn - Of course the people had a say in those acts. They voted in the congressmen who passed those laws and afterward, they voted them in again. When "We the People" finally decide to take our country back, let me know. Till then, "We the Sheeple" will keep blindly voting for the same type of politicians who gave us the Patriot Act, etc. And for that, we are neither safer, nor freer.

Capt (Join to see) - Humor me. go read "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" by William L. Shirer. Pick on "the Other" (both foreign and domestic), warn of threats that only they can handle, move closer to the people who donate to keep you in power (it's symbiotic), make your enemies your new friends (Russia- Germany), take over all media, tell of the lies that are told about you. The book is a 'how to' book for those who want to diminish the rule of law. Hitler and Goebels did not encourage gun ownership.
