I think when entering public places we should be checked for the safety of the people at large. If you're not doing anything wrong you have no reason to worry about getting in trouble. However at private places (i.e. home or some where the general public just can't walk in) we should whatever you want with consenting adults. The exception should be crimes like murder, rape, kidnapping or planning terrorist activities (i.e. bomb making).

We have the right to our own opinions and can say them publicly. However every action or statement will have good or bad consequences.

Liberty over freedom was always a lofty, unobtainable goal that was much easier to achieve in the 18th century than the 20th and 21st century. We do have to have a balance, we can't pretend otherwise. But we need to ensure we don't go one step beyond where we need to be to ensure the safety and stability of our nation.

I believe Liberty and Security have always been a balancing act, we certainly have given up some of our liberties over the years for what is often perceived as the common good. Take for example an individual's right to own certain firearms which are outlawed because of their perceived danger in the wrong hands.

responding to the original quote in that time the usa wasn't, we were ruled by England trying to gain our own independence, thus that quote is validated for that time, but trying to use it now is reckless and irresponsible, we are a nation now and yes we have our freedoms but we also need to protect our country from outside influences as well as inside influences, take a look at the oath you took "that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic", so creating stronger boarder control and immigration against illegals is paramount to this nation, and strong vetting of immigrants is needed, look at Canada, if you have no contribution to their country you don't get in, also why did Mexico build their own wall on their southern boarder, I don't agree with some of the stuff that's going on but if I sleep peacefully at night knowing that my 6 is protected then so be it

Jefferson made it very clear that he did not want a lasting Federal Government and preferred that each generation establish its own set of governance. Jefferson, throughout his life, valued personal liberty over Federally-provided security at every point in his life - and demonstrated that through his writings.

SP5 Christine Conley - I'm partial to the Jefferson Bible. I think it's very telling as to how he thought and believed.

MAJ Bryan Zeski Is the OP in reference to something specific? Or is it a general question?

SSgt Christopher Brose The trigger, per se, was the recent Executive Order banning specific types of people from specific countries from entering the US. But, we've been going down this road for awhile - PATRIOT ACT, NSA Spying, etc.

They are at least two separate things. Liberty for us as American citizens does not equal liberty for non-citizens, especially non-citizens who aren't even in this country, some liberal jackass judge in New York notwithstanding.

The other things are more on point. But since Trump is strongly supportive of our 2nd Amendment rights, and since he's planning on slashing bureaucratic regulations, I think we're trending in the right direction.

Sgt Steven Thomas - Because they are dumbasses. Speaking with no more wisdom than the chatter under the hairdryers at the local beauty shop and deserving as much consideration. Most of these people have more senseless wind coming out of their mouths than is expelled by Capuchin monkeys while they are engaging in public masterbation at the zoo.
Sorry, should be mastUrbation. On the other hand the left are distinct masters in the mental side of that particular form of self abuse.
