Finally! An easy one to answer simply. The reason this isn't all over the media is the same reason the death of Freddie Mercury isn't all over the media. It's really old news, for which there is a general assumption that most educated people are already aware. Congratulations on catching up though! By the way, sneak peak, we made it to the moon as well ;0)

I don't think a lot of African Americans would be flocking to Islam if they knew slavery still goes on today in most Arab nations including castration. Tomorrow ask ten soldiers if they knew Muslims still own black slaves. I'm curious what the results will be. SFC Michael Hasbun

What you fail to understand is that most of the slave owners in the Islamic countries are black people. The color of the skin doesn't have as much to do with it as tribal and ethnic affiliation.

Why not? Most blacks in America are worshipping the deity slave owners gave their ancestors...

I think we do. One example being the human rights violations surrounding World Cup construction in Qatar.

Clearly not because I just heard on the news about women going to Iraq and Syria to become ISIS brides. The honeymoon didn't last long and they wound up beaten to death.

SPC Nathan Freeman - That's too bad that others aren't as aware as some. This is a fairly common occurrence. There are known set phases to the entire cycle. It's also common knowledge that their is regular abuse to female maids, nanny, ...., also if a wife speaks up about it she will be the one punished.

Why haven't we heard about the slavery that still exists in Muslim nations?

Hell in the US you can have O'Pears (I think that is how it is spelled) Ex-Pats from other countries that function as Maid, House Care Taker and Live In Babysitter and Hopefully they are not abused but there are plenty of cases where they are abused by their "Employer". I think there was a big case recently about one in Hong Kong. In many cases these Ex-Pats become virtual slaves to send some small amount of Money Home. As far as being "Silent" we Liberals actually do care. How Many Liberal News Services do you follow? How many overseas News Services do you follow? Or is it just that FOX tells you that Liberals are Hypocrites and don't care? Or Breitbart? Or Whatever Reich Wing Rag that you Read?

As always, you must check your sources. I see things at least on a monthly basis about the continued existence of slavery in west African countries. Mali and Mauritania still practice slavery in "minor" forms. If memory serves me right, I believe Mauritania was one of the last countries to outlaw slavery, but as mentioned before it is still practiced, especially in the desert areas far removed from the cities. In some of the Arab countries, the south Asians who come to work there can easily find themselves in abusive situations- being treated like subhumans and only being able take payment through a home and food, which makes it next to impossible to escape from their "employers."

There are still nations that haven't banned it. Would you consider it minor if it were happening to you? SSG (Join to see)

SPC Nathan Freeman I do not consider slavery minor. (That's why I put it in quotation marks.) I understand slavery is still taking place in countries around the world, but it is illegal everywhere in the world as far as I am tracking. Whether or not the governments of those countries actively pursue the criminals is a different story all together. Other forms of slavery like wage slavery and subsistence payments make slavery persist in a different form all across the world.

Here is a good article about slavery in Mauritania. I know west Africa better than any other place in the world right now (mostly because that's my job as an intel analyst in a unit that's focused on nothing but AFRICOM), but I've heard imilar stories about some of the Gulf countries treating people the same way as the Mauritanians treated Moulkheir (the protagonist in the cited article here).

or how about because the republicans who made deals with these countries to sell them weapons and give them financial aid decided it would look bad to mention. BTW those were republicans like Reagan who brokered these deals.

Women have few rights in Muslim countries. Simple things like driving a car or having a job or going somewhere without an escort can get a woman killed.

LCpl Mark Lefler actually I heard Sean Hannity talking about slavery of children captured by ISIS. Women and children of all ages are being used as sex slaves. Glenn Becks book "it is about Islam" talks about it also. Perhaps you should tune in to http://www.theblaze.com

To better address this question, I'll have to pose another question: Who funds and manages the press in those nations? I'll bet my next paycheck there are some slave owners who have keen interest in "what" information leaves their country's borders.

SPC Nathan Freeman I suspect the reason we don't hear a lot about slavery in Muslim countries is for the same reason that stories about the kidnapping of young girls and boys who are most likely destined for the sex trade tend to be short lived.
In a nation where euthanasia has been declared legal in the northwest and Planned Parenthood is selling body parts of aborted babies, many people have been lulled to apathy by through inundation of horrible news. Only those with eyes to see, ears to hear and a heart sensitive to the Holy Spirit will have a tendency to have hearts of flesh when remembering how badly people treat each other.

Imagine the modern liberal who complains about the US being built on the labor of slaves and then touting the virtues of places like Dubai while they ignore the slave labor, income inequality and misogynist attitudes as the muslims build their empire. But it's ok over their because it's part of their culture. Hypocrites!!!

As a Muslim, let me say that slavery is not okay in the modern world. Though slavery is condoned is both the Quran and the Bible, there is no place for it in the modern world in any form to include wage slavery or outright ownership of human beings.

Let me ask you this though since you alluded to income inequality while simultaneously bemoaning liberal sentiments- Do you support raising the minimum wage in the US? Why or why not?

Nope i don't. We live in a capitalist world. If you don't like your wages, get and education or skill and move to another job. You have to know that any corporation that is forced to raise their wages will pass that on to the consumer, don't you? Aren't those that are getting a "raise" still consumers? Who do you think it will affect the most when wage inflation hits? The slaves in dubai don't have the same choices we have.
