This picture is exactly the damn problem. There should only be one statistic on it...

Three hundred and twenty billion Americans in 2014. One thousand, one hundred and eleven are killed by police in 2014. That's represents a ratio of 0 [login to see] 7. In 2014, fifty police officers were murdered by Americans, or at least people in America. Out of 900,000 LEOs in the country, that represents a ratio of 0 [login to see] . I guess it doesn't matter that the numbers show it is SIGNIFICANTLY more likely that a police officer will die at the hands of someone else than it is someone else will die at the hands of a police officer in America. Likewise, I'm sure it's of no relevance that the vast, overwhelming majority of those 1,111 individuals were persons engaged in felonious criminal activity, the kind of felonious criminal activity that legally authorizes deadly force? I wouldn't want to confuse reality with fiction.

I spent three decades in that business, @sgm mike oldsen. Those pesky facts are what never get reported. And I have more of them. Sometimes, though, one set of facts are either enough, or they will never be...you know what I mean? It is what it is.

It doesn't. It occurs in communities with a high percentage of poor and uneducated people.

My mother in law lives walking distance from where the Rodney King Riots occurred... she is Hispanic, as are most of her neighbors.

The problem is a community that has lost hope. Poor, uneducated, and living in an area where criminals seem to have the most success. People loose hope... conditions of frustration, crime and self pity become the norm.

Then something happens that motivates action, but without an education that motivation has nowhere to go, so instead of the action being to move, or get an education and become a lawyer, or clean up the neighborhood so the police don't see it as a battle-zone, or run for office... instead they destroy their own community.

Rodney King Riots happened just a few miles from the expensive shops of Rodeo Drive... why wouldn't they loot them instead of stealing from the shop owners in their own community that sell them the necessities of life?

Lack of education.

Note: CNN statistics of "Officers Charged"...

Where is the statistics for the "Officers NOT Charged" and the rate of persons Killed by the Police?

As well as the Statistics of Officers Killed by Perpetrators?

A partial review of the facts leads to inaccurate conclusions ...

Regardless of which community it takes place in, its wrong. It may come from a lack of understanding, or education. Or a level of frustration with a situation. Riots, arson, stealing, in your own backyard and asking the world to show you some respect, now think about that for a minute. Is there a better way?
