Seriously I wanna know. Mainly from you senior leadership and your mentality when it comes to this specific headgear, or even as to why it's frowned upon in the field when it's clearly authorized to be worn in the field.

Also if you are just going to bash me or make smart ass remarks because I'm asking this question, then don't even leave a comment. Thanks

In the first place they never should have allowed them, except for the Air Borne and SF.

Can't give you a reason but back in early 80's as a lowly PFC I would wear one in the summer in the field while on a remote relay site. Wasn't general issue but nobody had a problem with it, till the CO showed up one day. I couldn't wear it after that, just had to let my ears blister in the hot sun like everyone else.

If it's any consolation, this subject's nothing new. Boonie hats were unauthorized in my unit in Vietnam. Pretty much the only guys who could wear them were Sneaky Petes and some leg units. With some of them, there was some unique, individual examples. Stateside? Forget it. Leave it home, or give it to your kid brother.

Heck, this whole kerfluffle goes back farther than that. Look how Jerry Lewis was wearing it in "At War with the Army", at a point in time that was early WW2.

On my units deployment to A-Stan in 2014, we hated wearing it because it was being use by the Sustainment Brigade we fell under as an identifier.

I guess they just wanted you to buy it instead of wearing it. Maybe it’s just your leadership personnel that don’t like wearing them because they may look funny in them?

I prefer to be warm, but if one of my soldiers doesn't have it, we all suffer. Otherwise I enforce the standards put out. I think it is dumb in KS to not be able to wear it when the windchill puts the temperature damn near 0.

I have no idea why the boonie cap is demonized. I t should NOT be.
The boonie cap doesn’t represent anything evil, racist or controversial. My guess is that someone not even affiliated with the military got his or her feelings hurt. It’s really a shame that in this day and age someone can disrupt traditional things.
I still wear my old boonie cap from time to time. I am not trying to make a statement while wearing it as it comes in handy to do some outside work. I am also proud to wear it.
The military should not cave in to this BS.

Speaking only for my own unit as the 1SG, soldier care. Not in garrison, of course, and only if everyone had one.

I honestly think because so many civilians who are allergic to serving in the military love wearing military gear and the boonie hat seems one of their favorites so seeing troops wearing them reminds CSMs of that crap.
