Why isn't the VA On-the-job training and apprenticeship program more popular?

Setting up the program can be troublesome and complicated for employers. The Federal Government (through VA) should provide more assistance and incentives to Private and public employers.
I am currently trying to sell the program for my employer and noticed that not too many California employers participate. I think that is a shame as this program is ideal to assist veterans in transforming their Military skills to civilian skills and gain journey man/woman level employment.

The DOD Skillbridge program provides more diverse opportunities, and is easier to get into.

Thank you. The VA OJT program, when set up allows employers to hire an employee into a position, say classified as Police Officer, but as a police recruit. Then send the recruit to academy and field traiming for say a year. Durjng that time the employee would be paid as a recruit, but could get GIBILL, benefits while achieving journeyperson status and wage. The burden is on the employee to get their program approved and staffed. The program could be set up for any job that has a lenghty training program, i.e over 6 months. It can be set up for electricians, administrative staff, any job really.

Many civilian companies consider military training antiquated because the military is not using, in many cases, “state of the art” equipment or technology. Also, the want “well rounded technicians and in some instances the military training is broken down into subgroups. [Example: A jet engine mechanic can install the engine, work on the starter system and burner cans; however, they can not troubleshoot the generator or hydraulic systems.]

Might be due to fact many people, like myself, are not aware of the program. Until your post, I didn't even know this was available.
