The Pope doesn't believe it will disprove the existence of God. I suspect he's read my book.

Unless you can prove that the aliens ARE God, you will only prove that there are other life forms, not that there is/is not a God.

Interesting response. Gives much thought, discussion and yet still no definitive answer between logic and belief.
Great question!

Not at all. Our communications with them and what we learned would have the greatest theological implications. One would assume that if God exists, His presence would be identifiable in the cultures of all sentient life.

I'm far more concerned that discovery of space aliens will lead to human annihilation. Competitive evolution does not bode well for intelligent beings meeting one another.
To the topic: meeting space aliens might challenge those that believe the bible is the whole and literal word of god.

No, it will only prove that He created way more than we thought He did and prove that He is THE CREATOR of all things.

I think we would have to read their bibles first... ;)

Actually, I rather tend to agree with the Pope on that one...I've rather reached a conclusion that all races everywhere, in all planets, are, in fact, merely one piece of God...I've also read a good deal on theoretical aspects of dark matter/energy having been hypothesized as being the actual physical basis of God...look up a Wikipedia page on something called the flyby anomaly, it's been researched in depth by a physicist at Princeton Inst for Advanced Studies (IAS) quite seriously, I think you might find it quite thought provoking material on that whole line of thought, honest....

That information wouldn't prove or disprove the existence of a higher intelligence.

Space aliens. How about beings from another galaxy or solar system. As for the term God, we base this off what religious writers / translators has chosen for the name of a being they believe created us and demand we worship it. It is nothing more than a higher educated being or beings that possibly created or found us long ago and decided to observe or rule over us. A few of them used their technology to create miracles and create followers to write about them. It's possible some stayed behind, it's possible they are still watching us, it's possible they left and will come back later. Regardless, it is something with advanced technology capable of working with the matter that exist within our universe. We have reached levels in our evolution showing the same potential to achieve this same greatness to create. It's just a matter of time. As for proving God exist the answer will be no. What will be proven is advanced technological beings exist and we potentially have the ability to achieve what they already have in this universe and become their equal.
In the 20th century we wrote first and later achieve space travel. Since then we have achieved cloning. We are growing anatomical human parts of the body. Many other things were achieved. In the 21st century we are going to perform space travel within our solar system to our other planets. Eventually we will travel outside the solar system. If we find other early evolving beings on planets we might be consider like gods to them.
God, how it was defined, will not be found and does not exist. A more advance technological being of the time will be proven to have existed or possibly still exist using advance technology.

All I know is if we find life else where we better not ask them about who their God is or talk about ours, they might get offended.
Realistically, it won't prove nor disprove a thing. No science can. The only way we can definitively prove/disprove a higher being is by either seeing or not seeing a deity when we die. I choose to believe there is a God but even I can't 'prove' his existence, I can only believe and try to help others understand. The finding of extra terrestrial life will certainly raise further questions but they will be questions on a long list that I hope to get to ask the big man himself one day.
