I hope the answer is yes. I believe it is very important to have a veteran who can relate in office. We have over 1.5 Million members to choose from. What are your thoughts?

I believe that only a veteran could take on that responsibility. Someone, who has our best interest at heart and will not be held back by the politicians. Our needs need to be met and dealt with, without having to wait until they feel you're eligible.

Well, we now know the answer to your question. Robert Wilkie, the newest nominee for the VA's yop post is not apparently a member of RallyPoint, but is a military Reservist. Formerly an intelligence officer with the US Naval Reserve, and currently a member of the US Air Force Reserve, assigned to the Pentagon, Mr. Wilkie (none of the references I found gave a rank, but said he had attended the War College, so we can assume an officer rank), has no combat, or apparently any active duty experience. Although his father was an Army artillery officer. We shall see.

Instead of looking toward former officers, it might be time for a retired division level Command Sergeant Major to lead the VA.

I think that COL Mikel J. Burroughs would be good for the position. He is already doing so much to help the Veteran Community, this would just be taking it to the next level.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but with my (2) divorces and my childhood before the military the Senate would have so much fun running my name and family into the ground it wouldn't be funny PO3 Steven Sherrill - There are a lot of great candidates out there, but you have to be an "angel" to get through subcommittee approval for anything these days. I would love to drag my two ex-wives through that mud slinging contest (LOL), but not my daughters. They deserve piece of mind and not a bunch of dirty launfry piled on top. Thank you Steve, but there are a few RallyPoint Members out here on RP that actually work for the VA that are more qualified them I am. I'm just a dusty old soldier taking care of veterans, one veteran at a time. LOL!

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - You just pretty much nailed the problem. The congress, who are far from perfect themselves, are looking for someone who has no baggage. That person doesn't exist.

SGT Dave Tracy - Yeah I know, but he was a Dr Admiral, not an Admiral Admiral, probably drinks coffee with his pinky finger up! I was nominating a Navy Chief Warrant Officer selected from the CPO ranks and who dragged his knuckles all over this world for 23 years with 14 years of sea duty and a Vietnam vet and old Navy! :-)...me!

CWO3 Dennis M. - Ya see, all you did there was show you're over qualified for the job! Now we'll never get a new secretary.

SGT Dave Tracy - I agree, I was never a desk job jockey. The Admiral pulled out so now we will most likely get some civilian politician that will screw it all up worse than it was!

Ryan Callahan: I think that that is a terrific idea. I would love to run for the office of Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
