Improved efforts have seen the VA backlog drop from over 600k to approximately 128K in the last two years. Has this effort to eliminate the VA claim backlog been enough? With new claims coming in everyday and a backlog that was suppose to be eliminated by 30SEP15 is the VA in trouble again?

I doubt that they will. My question is how many people do they have working on this? Here is what I came up with math wise based on one person. 58 working days left (Monday-Friday) as of 13 July. That means 464 working hours (8 hours per day) which comes to 27840 minutes. 128,000 cases/27,840 minutes = 4.59 cases per minute. Obviously they do not have just one person working on claims. However, it seems like it. If they have 2,207 employees who do, they could reach the goal by 30 Sept. If they have 2,207 employees times 58 (one case per person per day) = 128,006. So, again, how many employees do they have working on these???

I had not thought about the manpower required to clear such a backlog, rather astronomical figures. Outlook doubtful.

Do not forget about the costs for these employees and support staff.

They will deny most, and create a backlog in appeals

Will the VA be able to clear 128k backlogged cases in the next two months?

No, I don't think that's realistic at all.

I'll work for free as a VA claims guru if they will let me. I'm thinking I have to leave the country to find a job.

The sheer number of backlogged claims is stifling to think about. That number coupled with the number of new claims that are coming in is even more evidence that it is not possible.

By using more creative book keeping, perhaps.

I sure hope not. That is contrary to what service members need and deserve.

SPC George Long I am sorry to hear that, unfortunate state of affairs! All veterans deserve so much better.

Yes, they do what they always have. Deny the claim and send the veteran all the documentation required to file an appeal.

Not if they do their job correctly! If they do, it means they took a lot of short cuts and a lot of veterans just got hosed. It takes at least 90 days to research a claim correctly, so do the math, there is no way.

That may be a sad fact, I hope they do not skimp on the benefits people have earned. Enough shortcuts have been already made.
