IT could be called Master Master Chief or Sergeant Major Major. You must always get the extra part in

I'm still waiting for the millennial generation to be offended by SECOND Lieutenant as sub standard relative to FIRST Lieutenant, and change the rank of O1 to Lieutenant-Lieutenant, and O2 to just plain Lieutenant like in the Navy.

SP5 Peter Keane - All the more reason not to make them match. Captain in the Army is much different than the Navy.

Could just bring back Subaltern and Captain-Lieutenant, keep everybody confused sir.

Regarding the 2Lt nomenclature, to follow the pattern this rank could be known as Major Lieutenant. Informally, "Lieutenant" or LT, or in the new case, "MLT".

There is. The SMA is on a separate pay scale than all other E9’s. It is the same for all services.

Good God I hope not!! We already have enough E-9's running around (and I DO mean E-9, not CMSgt, SGM, or MCPO!) without further stroking egos. The ONLY exception I would entertain would be if we created a Chief Master Sergeant of the Armed Forces (or service equivalent title) as an E-10. Even then, I would give it lackluster support at best. We don't make the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs a 5-star so why would we make Enlisted an E-10?

They kind of already have that with the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (SEAC), even comes with its own rank insignia.
