My Soldiers get their free lenses thru this site since LHI does not provide them anymore. It is legit. We are Army Reserve. All you have to do is submit the form and your prescription.

I just had my exam through LHI ( in DEC), and my glasses were provided by LHI. They sent them via USPS to my house. Whomever told you that they do not give the Soldier glasses gave you misinformation. The Soldier has to be sure to tell the Dr. to order them. I have had my glasses provided by LHI for 6 years.

Not necessarily misinformation. My Soldiers are told by LHI all the time that they cant have them because they aren't deploying. I have to put them in a voucher for a special comprehensive eye exam with spectacles in order to get them paid for by the army but most of the time our command will not approve the voucher because they aren't deploying. Suppose it's different for some. Not sure why. Thanks for sharing your experience because now I'm going to call LHI.

Well, here is what I found out from the LHI representative at an SRP my BN just did a few months ago. If you are a member of the USAR and USANG and you are RED in vision and get an exam done, you will NOT be issued government glasses and inserts until/unless you MOB.

My UA put in my voucher and I was seen the next week. Full eye exam and they sent me my issued glasses and medicated sunglasses but I had to pick them up from my unit.

SGT Jonathan Hoffman - Problem with that is that USARC and DA decided my unit no longer needed a UA so they yanked him and were notified a replacement will NEVER happen. And, BN S1 has no clue. Cakes and pie.

If you're due for your annual examination, get the appt.. LHI will set it up, and that includes getting the military glasses too. You'll probably just get 2 pair of the same black frame prescription like I did. They won't issue inserts or sunglasses if you're not mobilizing. But, you'll get the 2 standard issue pair yearly. If it's been less than 11 months, they won't even schedule the appt. Go on AKO and check your MEDPROS. It'll have the date and when you're expected to make the appt. Your medical readiness NCO will help get that set up. If they aren't helping, let your chain of command know and call the number listed in MEDPROS. I'm a drilling reservist. This happens every year. They're not too sexy, but I can see and make a great backup when needed.
