Would you be willing to tell me which bases still have a legitimate computer programming operation going on?

I am about to get my availability listings and I am trying to do some research in advance. After looking at the authorizations on AMS I am dubious about the majority of the bases with 3D0X4 billets actually having a 3D0X4 mission. I only know that Scott, Offutt, and Maxwell-Gunter have our mission. I haven’t heard anything that recent on the other bases.

Dave, I'm headed to Offut. From what I hear, they have a pretty good programming mission. In addition to the places that have already been mentioned, I think that Tyndal may have a mission as well. Good luck!

Thanks, Offutt had 2 programming spots while I was there about 8 years ago. Some at Air Force Weather Agency (or whatever they are calling it these days) and some at the 55th SCS.

We have the largest and most active one here at Scott as far as I know. We just did a series of apps that go in the EFB for loadmasters to help them do calculations for weight and balance on all of the large planes that lowered flight times drastically and minimized errors from an average of 20 per flight to next to none. From what I hear the operation at Maxwell/Gunter is not a true programming shop, but mostly database management. There are also a number of us in Germany according to a TSgt who just PCSed to here, but I have not asked what their mission is there.

Thanks a ton, three plus years ago I moved here from the 375th. Glad to hear that things are still moving along. I have recently heard good things about Ramstein as well. Keep an open mind on Maxwell-Gunter, I have met programmers who have both programmed and done other things while they were there. Though I admit that the words that I have heard on Maxwell-Gunter are not terribly recent (I am stuck in NATO-land and am off of the grid so to speak). Feedback from people like you, A1Cs, is most valuable to me at this point because you have the newest and best information in our exceedingly small AFSC and, after almost 4 years out of our field, I really want to get back to what I trained for.

Tinker, Patrick, and Lackland. I'm on Lackland but my shop might be getting dissolved, and there's another shop down the street in a different NAF.

Thank you, I would not have thought Patrick would still have our job. Glad to hear about Tinker also, a nice big base like that would be a welcome sight after 4 years in Europe.

SMSgt (Join to see) - Two of the SSgt's in my shop PCSd from there. They both worked on AWACS-related things with Assembly I think. Some outdated language like that.

Assembly is most unbelievably certainly old, but at this point (for me at least) welcome. Thanks! If it is available I will give it a serious look.
