This is an excerpt from a former Texan who emigrated to Chile:
"Ease for foreign retirees/pensioners. Retirees from US, Canada, EU, Brazil and more find that it is virtually effortless to receive their IRA, Social Security, 401K, or pension distributions in Chile. Chile has established reciprocity agreements with several major countries, for seamless processing of pensioner distribution. Fill out a few forms, and in a month or two, it's done. They do this, because they (unlike the US) want to attract those who can pay their own bills, and be self-sufficient, and spend their money here."

I probably would never leave the US for good, but if I did, I'd move to New Zealand in a heartbeat. After that, probably Ireland, England, Scotland, or Wales.

CPO Andy Carrillo, MS - I spent some time in NZ a few years ago when I went to present a paper at a conference. I fell in love with the place. It had great people, an awesome climate, lots of outdoor activities, an interesting culture, and a very pragmatic political perspective. The others? Mostly due to heritage.

CPO Andy Carrillo, MS I lived exclusively in Germany (outside of the Military) for almost 20 years. It is something that calls to you if you truly love the people and the way of life in a country. The lure of the US was too much for us though, and we have been living happily in Alaska for almost 4 years now.

If we ever chose to leave the US again it would either be Germany, or Australia.

PVT Robert Gresham I've spent a LOT of time on ships and aircraft in Alaska, long enough that I actually had to use one of the 'bear phone huts' in Alyeska, but I've never actually resided there.

I retired over here in Germany after being stationed here for the better part of my career. I love it.

In light of the reasons listed in the article, why Belize or Australia? Surfing? Diving?

Australia I would pass on. However I would definitely consider Belize. I have known people who retired there and they loved it. Belize welcomes US retirees and the cost of living is low. I also know a couple who retired to Chile and they say the same about it. The main reason that I would probably choose Belize is the fact that it is an English speaking country.

CPO Andy Carrillo, MS , Belize, they speak english and the cost of living. I buy almost none of what the author is selling. To me a right leaning moderate, his extreme views are a turn off and have almost no chance of ever happening. But to each his own. This is purely my opinion and I have zero need to get into another long drawn out with someone who thinks differently. I will not change anyone's mind nor will they, mine. Semper Fi
