Love this place. Close to Nashville, Chattanooga. Great drive down to Pigeon Forge. It is a small post with a great PX and Commissary. I have been here for 14 years

One of the best thing about FT Campbell is Nashvegas. Also being station there you might be able to go Air Assault as a fill in.

It's a good base to start off at. It was my first duty station in 1992 with 5th SFG(A). I know it's grown quite a bit since I left but I'm sure there's still a lot of good stuff there. Nashville is only about 45 minutes away too.

Yes with us CAV folks we don't need a glass or canteen - a boot or a Stetson works just fine.

I was there as a medic from early 2008 to 2011 and while the Potemkin was high and I had more than a few late nights, I really did enjoy my time there.

Any duty station will have its share of good and bad, it's up to you to make the best of it.

Geez, nobody into Country Music anymore? If you have time take a trip to Lorretta Lynn's (Coal Miner's Daughter) ranch near Ft. Campbell, she has guitar pucking contests, singing contests, etc. Lots of country music talent within driving distance of Ft. Campbell. Johnny Cash family used to have a spread in TN, Hank Williams Jr has a spread in KY somewhere. Other country music stars.....look them up and see. A good portion have visitor centers near their homes (like Loretta Lynn).

SPC Erich Guenther Country -Blue Grass - Hillbilly?

Ft Knox 1953, after supper, Harry Lane, from Knoxville, would climb into his upper bunk, remove the bulb from the overhead lite, screw. an adapter in, plug his small radio into that plug and let it Go!

We would depart until Harry had gone to sleep! He enjoyed wild Country Music of 1953! LTC Stephen C.

CSM Charles Hayden Passed 7/29/2025 - I like most types of music. Country is fine with me though. Also like the old fashioned Jazz Bars in Chicago that are smoke filled and have a Jazz performer among the crowd on a stool performing in song or music while the bar serves dinner or snacks.........excellent experience. Andy's is a live Jazz Bar. Totally worth the experience to spend some time there, give it a try next time your in Chicago here is the weblink:

Nashville used to have a lot of clubs like this in Printers Alley back in the day.

30 second DZ. Jump masters have it easier at Ft Bragg with 1 minute and 30 seconds to empty the airplane.

SPC STEPHENSON, Just chatted with my Ret'd SF buddy - aged now - was fully qualified - 102 jumps, told of the short ride for a jump at Ft Campbell, he said the aircraft would clear the hospital and "Standup" was next.

For his SF qualification he learned and passed the test for the 'German' language.

Later, as a motorcycle officer, he and his partner would lapse into speaking German. The people awaiting a citation or? Who enjoyed using their "native language" to frustrate policemen were severely offended by officers using a language that was incomprehensible to them!

Great posting when I was there in the mid 80s. Clarksville TN and Hopkinsville Ky are nice cities. And Nashville is close. It not like being out in the middle of the American desert
