The nation's capital entered a new era when the Senate voted to
invoke the "nuclear option," a technical change that is sure to worsen the
divide between Democrats and Republicans.

Here's a liberal perspective on the situation:

The parties have never really been in sync with each other but the current state is just plain awful. The GOP-controlled House of Representatives have been playing a 'screw over the President and hope nobody is looking' stance while remaining completely intransigent and anti-anything the President proposes. It's disgusting and costly to us, the taxpayers. The 113th Congress is literally and factually the worst Congress in the history of the United States. The Speaker of the House has publicly said that they would make President Obama a 1-term president and his office would be judged, not on the number of laws passed, but by the number of laws that are overturned. Well, they failed on that count since they have tried 50+ times to repeal the Affordable Care Act and failed to do so every time. The party of fiscal conservatives does a great job of wasting billions of dollars. Makes me sick.

The Republican party used to mean something. Now it has been taken over by the fanatical right and the party has suffered since. The Tea Party has ruined the Republican party. I was a member for 12 years and left because of them. As Robert Downey Jr. once said in a film, "You never go the full retard." Sadly, that's what the party of Lincoln has done of late.

I find it hard to criticize the left. I know the right has a lot to say about them, but I honestly don't agree. Certainly, there are issues with both major political parties, but I am certainly biased towards the left. Just being honest.

Chief I agree with you 200%. I truly do not understand how the majority of the military support the Republican party. They have blocked just about every major bill that would have increased Veterans benefits just to spite the President. Yet some how they have convinced the majority of military members the President is this horrible person who does not care about America or Veterans. What baffles me more is anybody can go to the actual Congressional website and look at the history of votes regarding Veterans benefits. Despite overwhelming proof they still support individuals who do not have their best interests in mind. I really do not get it.

SSG, the current disconnect is a result of both parties being controlled by the lunatic fringe at polar opposites of the spectrum. It's simply a matter of small groups making so much noise; spending so much money to advanced their agendas, and shouting down anybody who doesn't believe exactly what they do. Until the middle reasserts itself, we will continue to witness the colossal lack of civility; inability to compromise; failure to develop positive constructive solutions, and phenomenal selfishness that has risen during the last generation. These people don't represent the views of the vast majority of Americans. They speak for a small but vocal minority.

My humble opinion.
