Have you looked into PEL Grants? There are other programs which are based on your personal set of circumstance. You can also look to google for active duty/veteran programs that provide financial assistance. Thank you for your service.

There are more scholarship opportunities than applicants.

"Real" scholarships are not easy to find or don't exist. Most I have seen you have to join a site and do surveys, etc.

Every Vet organizations have scholarships. There are so many scholarships that do not get awarded because there is not enough competition for them. Some people are too lazy to write an essay. Others send in for their essay: Give me money, I am in Nigeria. Foreigners are often more active than our own people. Vets just need to jump in and comply with the requirements.

SGT Jamell Culbreath - the AMVETS scholarship was intended for people who,out ran their GI Bill. Two google hits as veteran scholarships as the the search parameter. http://amvets.org/scholarships/

If it was me, I would call the VA, and explain the situation. I worked for the VA after I retired, none, not even one of there rules are written in stone, there is a waiver, or, special circumstances for everything...everything. If they won't help you call your congressman, explain the situation, and if its in his or hers best interest I bet they will help you, especially since its an election year. That is what I would do anyway.

Additionally, you could contact any of the veterans services organizations, such as the American legion, or Amvets, they may also be able to help you. Your state could also be a possible source
