I am a tech geek, and I do not like the direction society is going with AI. I would rather think for myself and not rely on software to automatically make decisions for me.

I Don't Know Sh*t About Technology,
But Common Sense ALONE Tells Me :
"WE Will BE In a World Of SH*T When IT Takes Over.
And I Have Little To No Doubt IT Will.

Ai is just a computer with no comprehension of what is feeling or any other emotions that we may feel. Yes, it is faster then us but not as smart as us. Garbage in garbage out. There are many movies out there that show us what will happen if AI takes over. They create a mental illusion of what if. We only look at the negative.

THAT, My Good SFC Soto, IS The Problem,
WE Put SH*T In And IT Sorts Through It. IT Uses The Good SH*T And
WE Get Screwed Over. ~ Not IT's Fault, But Ours', And By Then; WE'LL Have No Way
Of Stopping IT.

AI intelligence can only go as far as humanity general population intelligence. Yet, do not see AI able to fix a flat tire, do plumbing repairs and pick up trash off the streets.

The first three examples in the post have nothing to do with human values. They reveal insufficient basic information for the AI program to answer the questions sensibly/correctly. This is one of the major problems with AI: we can't always tell ahead of time what information needs to be provided to make good solutions possible. By the way, this is also true of human decision-making, but children acquire some of this knowledge as they grow. Another major problem is AI's tendency to make up false "information," such as inventing citations in academic papers and most recently, false precedents in a legal brief.
We're told that these flaws can be fixed, and that may be true; but what other flaws can emerge next?
None of these will be corrected or eliminated by programming "human values" into the system. Human values don't prevent the same kind of errors in human thinking.
All of that said, I have no doubt that Captain Gallo is fundamentally right: if AI can acquire humane values, our safety will be improved even if its factual errors and disinformation continue.

Do not see AI or any advanced technology taking over humanity. With every reason that technology can go as far as the growth of human conscience. It wouldn't matter if a society has handful of highly intelligent people invented such highly advanced technology among a mass population that maybe idiots when such wouldn't go far when these highly intelligent people are no longer around to upkeep such advanced technology going. It'll just go away. More so, technology can go far as the growth of mindset in a given society.

By pure logic, how many battles/campaigns would not have been fought or abandoned in their initial contact.

Soldiers are not trained for success, we are trained for failures. Like Guadalcanal, D-Day ... Brilliant minds make plans, soldiers are what determines if those plans succeed or fail.
