This week’s Borne the Battle interview is with Army Iraq War Veteran, David Gowel, a West Point and Ranger School graduate who later became an assistant professor at MIT’s ROTC program. David is currently the CEO of RallyPoint, a military-themed social media network. Which begs the question: just how does a former armor platoon leader become the CEO for a social media company? And, with a crowded social landscape that includes Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, SnapChat and others, why would anyone join yet another social media network?
This week’s guest lays out his case. In the interview, he also shares tips and pointers for expanding your own social media network.

This was a great episode. I am a seller. I have been working on "social selling" for years. I am currently working in my first "start up"; working with reps who are at least one generation younger than me; and they are green. It was great to listen to this podcast as it helped me remember some of the tips we used back in the day to start our networks.
Thanks for always putting out great content SSgt Tanner Iskra

I’ve seen these comeons for podcasts before. They seem interesting. What are podcasts? How does it work? Do I need an app? Is it video or text? If video does it have closed captions?

Hi Hilary,
There is a player in the text. Also, if you have iTunes, Spotify or Google podcasts you can search for “Borne the Battle” and play it on those.

SSgt Tanner Iskra - thank you for helping me. I’m not familiar with podcasts at all. I expected to see a video of some sort, hopefully with captioning, but I just get a picture exactly like the picture I clicked on, with a photo of the hosts face, only larger. I use my iPad with the volume turned off so I don’t disturb others, it doesn’t do me much good. That’s why I’m trying to figure it out, is it an audio-only presentation? That’s cool, but if so I don’t have to worry about messing with it anymore. If it’s video with captions though, I’m set.
Thank you
Thank you

No worries! Yes, some podcasts have a video element (see Joe Rogan on YouTube), but for me, right now Borne the Battle is just audio at this time. I’m hoping to add a video element in the future but I’m a one-man-band on this right now :)
