Although I did get 6 tattoos during my time in service, the only one that was "inspired" was censoring one that I got while I was in the Army. The Air Force decided that it was POSSIBLE that someone MIGHT find it offensive. So, goodbye to my mermaids bare breasts.

I have never had a tattoo, but I want to get a CIB on my upper right arm. As I was in a Scout/Recon platoon, I want to get the "unauthorized" recon tab with it. ... I'm waiting on two things... money and guts, lol. If anyone wants to donate either money or guts to get it, I'd take both.

I have one tattoo, on the upper shoulder, of Crossed Pistols. I did not get the tattoo until after discharge.

All 3 of my tattoos I got after joining. However, none of them are military-related. I have one for my sister who passed away, my wife's initials, and a music related tattoo.

Misspelled tattoos 12
Only once was tempted to get one and it was when I got into MECEP. It was our last chance as enlisted to get something that was frowned upon for officers that would identify us as enlisted. Some of the guys went and got them but I thought about it for a good while and realized that they're permanent and there isn't any going back on your decision (see pic). Furthermore, my reason for getting it would be wrong. If you have to rely on a tattoo to remind the troops where you came from in order to get their respect, what does that say about your leadership? And most importantly, my personal belief is that if my body is God's temple, I shouldn't be marking it up with graffiti. I'm not for or against others doing it, and for each person it has to be their personal decision. To each their own. For me it was a personal decision not to go that route and one that I don't regret now (again see pic).

Yea...hindsight's a bitch aint' it?! As for a reason to be tattooed...I'd be willing to bet that the majority (including myself) got their tattoos to remind themselves...not others...of meaningful, maybe even proud moments in their life.

No, because I can't picture one that I would want to carry for the rest of my life. I toyed with the idea of getting my first operation squadron patch tattooed on my shoulder...but seems like kind of a douche, Jersey Shore-type move when you eventually PCS to another squadron.

I've always wanted to get a tattoo. However, I haven't gotten one yet. I have a design in mind that has been evolving since I was in 10th grade. My time active with the marines plays a major role in the current idea. The biggest hurdle to getting it is the time and cost associated with a full back tattoo, which is what I want to get. I do plan on getting it one day though.

I've gotten 2 tattoos inspired by my military service. I don't know too many Marines who don't have an EGA tattooed somewhere on their body, to include myself. I also have Psalms 144:1 on my ribcage. "Praise be to the Lord my rock who trains my hands for battle, my fingers for war". I got that right before I went to Afghan.

I had six before I joined. Through the years of service I wanted to be that sailor that got one in every port. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way. I finally got my seventh one after my second deployment, it was in Norfolk, the first initials of each of my children. Since I got out it's been on my mind to get a military related tattoo. I have a few ideas, just waiting for the right time to get it, my work schedule is pretty time consuming.
