This has been a bad year for the NFL, with deflategate and then the kneeling protests. Since #PleaseStand isn't being allowed in the program for the Super Bowl, this has actually given you a larger awareness platform. What message do you want to convey?

Tim, thank you for bringing this up. I was shocked when the NFL rejected our ad. I get it that they don't want to further the issue, but NBC has already pledged to do that in the Super Bowl. Accepting our ad would have been the best case scenario for all, but they decision not to has definitely given AMVETS a much larger platform and has created more conversation than I could have imagined around this. We did not intend to stir things up, but they are stirred now.

Thanks for sharing, Bill! So many people and just about every news agency is talking about this. It is a very important topic.

I talked to Joe a few months ago about Cross Country Cycle 4 Vets and he sounded real excited about posting an article about what I was doing. Like so many others told me to email and never heard back. Even left 4 voice messages, no reply. So glad I donate $600 to Amvets when they called me for my brothers and sisters and always there to help and I am a lifetime member. Just happy that Illinois Amvets supports my cause 110%.

5 weeks left and on my way out to San Diego, we have the Navy Band playing on the USS Midway and a new twist, I will be cycling solo from Phoenix to St Augustine. Hey one thing the Navy taught me... Never Give Up and I will peddle those 2175 miles to the finish. I have raised $10,380 for Gary Sinise Foundation and will be at the Chicago auto show for the week .

This really angers me. Veteran funds can't even change this mentality. http://newschannel20.com/sports/american-veterans-says-nfl-wont-run-please-stand-add-during-the-super-bowl

SSgt Joe Chenelly, thanks for joining us on RallyPoint. With all the news about #PleaseStand and the NFL blocking AMVETS' Super Bowl ad, do you see this message getting more traction now than if they would have just let it run during the big game?
CWO3 Retired
Joe, I see that you and I have a lot in common. First let me congratulate you for being on RallyPoint and second as the AMVETS National Executive Director. It has been my pleasure serving AMVETS in Hawaii a few years back. In your position what can you see ahead with this new Military Retirement System? Also as retired Veterans and or Veterans how can we help stamp out Homelessness, drug abuse, and the lack of information on care throughout the VA Healthcare System. I’ve been retired from the Marine Corps now going on 24 years the end of this month. I’ve been an advocate for Veterans Benefits and their families since 1994 with numerous VSO’s. The last one being with the County of San Diego. I know that there’s little you can do about certain issues, but my concern is that are we getting the right information to Congress for our Veterans in Need. Past, Past and Future? Keep up the great work you do Marine and your folks do on a daily basis and say hello to my Marine Buddy’s at DAV, VFW, PVA American Legion, and AMVETS.

Thanks so much, sir! Semper fi. I really appreciate your longtime service in uniform and after. Our volunteer veterans advocates at the local levels save lives on a regular basis. There are a lot of things going on now to help in these tremendously important topics. We are advocating for better VA and private treatment centers, more veterans courts, better coordination within the VA health care system and with the Choice Program. So many moving parts mean more space for veterans to fall through. It all starts at the local level, but we at the national level need to do better in providing support, resources and coordination. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to better empower you. I am at [login to see] .
