Joseph is here to discuss the following topics:
Why he decided to run for office
What work he’s done to support veterans as an entrepreneur and community leader
Why veterans make good lawmakers
How he’ll work across the aisle if elected
Politics needs a culture of servant leadership and integrity
Joseph is the Democratic nominee for Texas’ 21st Congressional District. In a district that includes 10 counties from San Antonio to Austin and parts of the Texas Hill Country, Joseph spends his days on the campaign trail meeting voters and local leaders. TX-21’s current Congressman, Lamar Smith, is infamous for denying scientific fact and refusing to engage with his constituents. As he seeks to replace this 30-year incumbent, Joseph is building a new coalition of voters who believe the values, priorities, and expectations of Texas’ 21st congressional district will serve as a model of service and representation for Texas and the United States. His priorities include health care for all, moving towards a 100% renewable energy economy, and passing a real 21st century Jobs Act.
Joseph Kopser graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering. After graduating Ranger School, Joseph requested to go to Texas and was assigned to Fort Bliss in El Paso. In 2002, he earned his Masters in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, with a focus on Campaigns, Elections, and Special Advocacy. Joseph taught as an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at West Point from 2002-2005. In the summer of 2004, Joseph deployed to Baghdad to assist with the Iraqi elections. From June 2005-February 2007 he was Cavalry Squadron XO and S3 Operations Officer of 1-9 Cav with the 1st Cavalry Division, and deployed to Iraq for the second time. From April 2007-May 2008 he was Battalion XO of 2-7 CAV with the 1st Cavalry Division. From 2008-2009, he was Strategic Planner for the Future Force Integration Directorate, where he worked with Major General James Terry to communicate the Army's priorities of modernization to Congress and Industry. From 2009-2011, he served at the Pentagon as Special Assistant for the Army Chief of Staff, General George W. Casey. His final Army assignment was as Department Chair and Professor of Leadership and Strategy with the Texas Army ROTC at the University of Texas at Austin. He retired in 2013 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Well, all I need to know is you are on the same side with Nancy, Maxine, Schumer, et al. You are known by your friends and associates. You may be a peer Army officer, but no, you and I are not the same kind of Americans. Sadly, this political divisiveness started over 9 years ago, and it was the product of that smug, arrogant jerk, Obama. I was once tolerant of others' opinions, but I got an 8-year dose of Democrat cram down concurrent with their collective, "I know better what is good for you than you do" arrogance. Spending the last 18-months telling me I am too stupid to elect a President and expending energy on an outright coup to deny 64M citizens their legitimate votes representing 306 electoral votes finished the deal with me. This country is a lot closer to April 1861 than it was when Pres Kennedy asked me as a 4th grader to do something for my country.
We don't need this kind of political debate here. How about moving it to Facebook and try to maintain the dignity of Rallypoint!
Why are we not seeing any answers if this is supposed to be a Q&A? It seems to be just Qs with accompanying comments from everyone except the candidate. What gives? Just a lowly enlisted man trying to understand the elite. (Sarcasm, if you didn’t catch it)
What should the VA and possibly the Public Healt Service do for those servicemen/women and dependents impacted by the poisoned waters at places like Camp LeJeune?
Good luck sir! Medicare for all, tution free public education for state colleges... excellent positions. We already pay more, per capital, for healthcare than any other advanced country in the world. And all other advanced countries in the world has some form of universal healthcare. It’s an inevitability for the US. The current system is unsustainable.
I wouldn’t expect much support on rally point though. A lot of these guys support massive tax cuts for the richest people in our country. I think most military members have been fooled by the jingoism of the republicans into thinking that they’re actually for military members. Seems to me like we bomb just as many people under democrats and republicans. We spend way way more than every other country in the world on our military under both democrats and republicans. It’s not like the military industrial complex is gonna starve either way.
Again, good luck sir... time to try something different.

The message of a buy back program is misleading. You should read https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5214a2.htm "In summary, the Task Force found insufficient evidence to determine the effectiveness of any of the firearms laws reviewed for preventing violence. References and key findings are listed (Table).

Regarding any social policy that strays from the original intent of the founding of our nation, lest we forget our nation was founded as a Republic, not a democracy or oligarchy. so how can you support any of your positions based on the fact the democratic party dictates more than it allows the people to self govern within the founding framework.
The way I see it, federal and state governments have grow way to big to be accountable to the people.

Healthcare for everyone is not the problem, its the health industry that is killing us with high deductibles, copays, hidden fees etc. Look into those things. As well as why should people pay for others medical expenses. How is it in other countries people find a way to pay then come here illegally and want it free. That's what is raising taxes is doing to us. What will you do about those things.
Please define the 'Principles' that define "You" and how they relate to the "Principles" of the DNC against the "ethos" and "principles" of the "Oath of Office" you took upon your commission?
LTC Joseph Kopser
I don't know what the principles of the DNC are. I am me, running as an American, a Texan, a dad, a husband, a veteran and a business. Those are my credentials sir.
SSG Dave Johnston
LTC Joseph Kopser - The Democrat Party Platform; is it consistent with those ideals, values, the U.S. Constitution its self, that you swore to 'Uphold and Defend' with your Oath as an Officer in the Armed Forces of these United States?
I'd vote anyone that wasnt Lamar Smith so you're already a winner in my book. But why are you a Democrat? In today's climate, Democrats are still losing seats and we all know the DNC is broke and stealing money from State branches. Also, what will you do to reverse the decision on net neutrality and clear up the dark smudge on our district from when Smith introduced SOPA?
1stSgt Nelson Kerr
I guess you have missed the results of the majority of the special election after Nov 2016 The Democrats are GAINING seats. Hell, we even o won in Alabama against someone that Trump praised fulsomely.
LTC Joseph Kopser
As for political parties, I think labels are wearing thin. I am not sure what a Republican is these days. Much less a stereotyped Democrat as you lay out. As for NN and SOPA, yes, it will be nice to have a Member of Congress that understands technology as I do. Bottomline, we cant govern the internet with legislation that was designed in the 1930s.
