If you were approved for an extension of a delineation period for your Montgomery GI BIll how can you speak to someone on the phone if you have a question about your extension? Also if you were approved for a Masters program that is full time but you are doing the classes 6 weeks at a time how can the school and VA communicate better about part time and full time status regarding a Montgomery GI Bill?

The Education Call Center can be reached a [login to see] ...it is a great resource for education benefits questions. I think the best answer to your second question is to discuss it with your school certifying official. Schools, not VA determine what constitutes a full time academic load for a particular term length, and the SCO should certify you as such.

Thank you sir for your answer. The education call center cannot answers about appeals, but can they contact the VA educational appeals personnel?

Q.: What is most expedient way to obtain the education VA certificate of eligibility? My masters degree is on hold since January bc no one I speak to in our Columbus, OH VA centers or VA’s 1-800-number knows how to help me. When you call the 1-800-number, you’re guaranteed to wait 1 hour/45 minutes. Who seriously has that kind of time? Advanced thanks.

Did you try this https://www.benefits.va.gov/homeloans/documents/docs/veteran_registration_coe.pdf? It's a pdf telling you how to go online and request it.

Maj Gen Robert M. Worley II, USAF Retired -- what is the most common area of education benefits that confuses SMs or Veterans, perhaps leading them to either not use the benefits at all, or use them in a non-optimal manner? Thanks as well for coming to talk with us on RP.

The Post 9/11 GI Bill can be complicated...a couple of things to point out...
- Since 2011 with a change in the law, housing is paid only while you are in school, not during breaks
- If you start a term taking 12 credit hours (full time) and reduce to 9 credit hours after term start (after VA has paid the school for you), then you will have a debt, and you will have to settle up with the school and repay VA
- We want GI Bill users to be well-informed consumers...use the GI Bill Comparison Tool
- Transfer of Entitlement: DoD drives the policy on TOE because it is a retention tool. TOE must be done before exiting the service and the member incurs a 4-year service obligation

I’ve been out for 21 years. Is it possible to start my G.I. Bill back up?

Unfortunately it’s likely your GI Bill benefits have expired; you had ten years from your discharge to use the Montgomery GI Bill, the program you would have been under in 1997.

No Questions although as a Viet Nam Veteran I did take advantage of the VA educational assistance and get My BS degree. That did cover My tuition and books but i still had to work part time to pay for the Dormitory room and board. Without the VA it would have been a lot harder and maybe even impossible. It sure helped Me a lot. I'm sure glad that was available to Me from the Veteran's Administration and it not only helped with finding a job but also a 20% increase in my weekly pay.
