Political pressure, pure and simple. One of the things I thought was a core value, they said so in BCT, was discipline. Vital for missions, teamwork and order. Guess that got tossed out when the "stressed out cards" were brought in! He brought all that crap on himself when he walked off his post and gets rewarded for it!! What discipline?!?

I wonder if you have reviewed all of the information presented at trial to form your conclusion or if you are just venting based on your hypothesis and a cursory understanding of the facts? The premise of your thesis is that PVT Bergdahl ran away (desertion?), yet in para 2 you stated “He was trying to make the world a better place”. Article 85 of the UCMJ is pretty clear about what desertion is, it involves both an act and an intent. PVT Bergdahl committed the act, but Is it possible he had “not intended” to stay away, avoid hazardous duty, or shirk important service. Are his actions odd, and different from the actions of millions of other veterans? Absolutely! But what if, in his own mind, he thought he was continuing to serve, and was attempting to save the lives of others by his actions? Is that selfless service? Is it impossible to believe that he thought “one man” could truly make a difference? Is that honor and dedication? Is it far-fetched? Would your opinion change? Just a thought.

Good points, but only valid if he's insane, which he could be. A rational person does not with good intentions leave his post. The intent was to leave, that's desertion. Anything after that would contribute or subtract form possible treason, IMO.

Major Granger wrote a well thought out and impassioned piece that I agree with nearly 100%. The danger we have is there are politicians who consider that the Constitution is an impediment to what they consider to be progress. We just came out from under a Commander in Chief that was an idiot who with his agenda and restrictive rules of engagement killed more soldiers than the enemy. It was he who declared the Iraq war lost before the surge turned things around. The five Taliban traded for Bergdahl was an outrage and shows the true colors of Barack Obama who had to have known that he was a deserter and still tried to sell it a worthwhile prisoner swap, even sending Susan Rice out to tell America how Bergdahl served with Honor and Distinction. I for one was insulted to my core. There is only one person responsible for this miscarriage of justice His name is Barack Hussein Obama his hatred for our brotherhood shows in everything he did.

Classic decline and fall. The unique melting pot that brought diverse peoples from all over the world and created the great nation that dominated world affairs in the 20th and early 21st centuries is fast fading. We have grown fat, dumb, happy, and selfish. Immigrants no longer assimilate. We are watching the destruction of our nation.

That picture with this deserter's parents and that other Moslem (you know who) is highly offensive . Why is a standing president sitting in on this issue Because he was an ignorant ass who could never understand any idea of military or government service for that matter.

Much like photos of Bergdahl still wearing a rank and other marks of military service? which should have all been ripped off of his uniform. Or Manning , or et al.

I personally think that the entire courts martial was a joke !! This man should have been appointed a military attorney like all other military members, should have been court martialed according the UCMJ without outside, civilian interference ! Then, maybe, just maybe we would have seen justice served, but by no means was this justice !!
