We should remember this lesson from history. I like the fact that it was field grade officers that were the main focus of this test.

They should reinstate the Rough Rider test and add jumping and mounted live fire tests. TR knew what he was doing. They can call it the Pogue Elimination test.

Col thank you for sharing this. It still sounds amazing and it is a wonder more older officers didn't die. However, not being a horseman I am not exactly sure of how strenuous this test may have been. Again thanks for sharing.

I like the historical info here. I always thought physical readiness was something way back in the beginning of the army. Now that I think about it I seem to remember some officers staying in till they dropped. Good read

The Two mile run has been around for awhile, when I entered service in '76 you had to perform the PT test in "Duty"
uniform. Reason stated was the enemy wasn't going to give you time to duff your boots and don you "Reboks".
