I am a 100% disabled vet. I receive the full amount of compensation. What portion of this would my wife receive when I die?

Dear PO2 Calovich, Thank you for your question and your service to our country. The Department of Veterans Affairs offers a number of benefits to eligible surviving spouses and children. For example, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) is a tax-free monetary benefit paid to eligible survivors of service members and veterans whose death resulted from a service related injury or illness. The Survivor Pension is a tax-free monetary benefit payable to a low-income, un-remarried spouse and.or unmarried dependent child of a deceased veteran with wartime service. TAPS Casework provides support in navigating survivor benefits, as well as partnerships with organizations like the Department of Veterans Affairs. Should anyone grieving a military death have questions, please encourage them to contact TAPS 24/7 at 800.959.TAPS (8277) or e-mail [login to see] . We are here to help. Sending you hope and gratitude, Bonnie Carroll

Good afternoon, and thank you for your question! Unfortunately, upon your passing your VA disability benefits will end. However, VA does offer a variety of benefits for surviving spouses that your spouse may qualify for. Please feel free to reach out to us at [login to see] and we will gladly go into further details!

As a 100% disabled vet, does my wife still get Champ VA if I pass?
Maj Bonnie Carroll

Dear SPC Henderson, thank you for your question and your service. In order for a surviving dependent of a veteran to be eligilbe for CHAMPVA, the veteran must have been rated permanently and totally disabled from a service-connected disability at the time of death. For more information, please visit: https://www.va.gov/COMMUNITYCARE/programs/dependents/champva/champva_eligibility.asp. With gratitude, Bonnie Carroll

Maj Bonnie Carroll - I am rated 100% service-connected disabled. What I am wondering is: "Will my wife continue to be covered by CHAMPVA after I die?"
SSG Neil Lichtman
I hope this will be recorded since I have a business Zoom at the same time.

Thank you. Few offer anything for long time caregivers of elder Vets. We’ make up the majority of Veterans caregivers but we’re a unique group with tons of experience and much different needs than a POST 9/11 Caregiver dealing w mental health.

Most of us are looking for groups that are made up of physically wounded

Thanks again!

Paula Minger that is so true. That's also what makes our program a little different. We support caregivers from all eras, and from all experience levels. We assist with strengthening skills they already possess and work on building up ones they are a little lacking in. We also focus on stress management and self care. Both are very important as you know. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out. Have a great day!
