When, Not If, Will We See Open Transgender Military Service?

On November 23, 2014, the Palm Center released a statement entitled "Military Services Have Failed To Comply With New Defense Department Rules On Transgender Personnel."
http://www.palmcenter.org/files/services%20out%20of%20compliance%20memo.pdf
This followed a report from last March where former Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders led a group that concluded there were no sound medical reasons why transgender people couldn't serve in the military services. It also followed an August report outlining a blueprint for how transgender people can be integrated into the military services - integrated much in the same way as 18 of our allies have already accomplished within their military services.
Military Times covered release of this latest report by the Palm Center. "A change to a Pentagon personnel policy three months ago loosens the rules barring transgender troops from serving in the U.S. military," stated the Army and Navy Times in their article entitled Report: Loophole could allow transgender troops to serve under new DoD policy, "giving the individual services leeway to retain these personnel." The article further stated, "The update -- to Defense Department Instruction 1332.18, Disability Evaluation System -- provides a loophole for the services to let transgender troops serve instead of requiring administrative separation, the Palm Center says."
The same socially conservative religious organizations that argued against repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT) such as the Center for Military Readiness, the Center for Security Policy, and the Family Research Council, are using almost identical arguments. In the end, those arguments didn't work and DADT was repealed.
DADT was a federal law passed in 1993 that barred lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) service members from serving openly in the military services, and the law needed repeal before LGB service members could serve openly in recent years. All that bars transgender people from serving openly now is the DoD and individual service regulations. And, it appears that the overarching DoD regulation was weakened last August so that the four DoD military services could change their rules now to allow open transgender service.
The military didn't implode when LGB service members could serve openly in the American military services; the military won't implode if – or when - transgender service members can serve openly in the American military services. Honestly, does anybody currently serving in the military, who has given more than a moment's thought to this, really believe there won't come a point in the next five years or so where transgender service members are serving openly? I think most people who've put some thought into this know that it's not a question of whether America will have openly transgender service members at some point, but rather a question of when we'll have it.
So with that in mind, do you agree it's a question of "when" and not "if"? And if you agree it's a "when," how soon do you believe we'll see open transgender military service?

Hopefully never. Not sure why people want everyone to recognize and participate in their mental illness. Keep that nonsense at home. You want to see recruiting numbers crash? Keep catering to the 1 percent of the population. What’s next, allowing schizophrenic people to serve?

What is the significance of the Palm Center? A liberal socialist think tank?
Unfortunately experimenting with accommodating self described Trans. personnel has not gone well in any place. With the widely documented and studied results being highly debilitating, disruptive and divisive impacts. The Trans experimentation is already in disaster mode from the Mindless Biden/Harris Admin.'s social experimentation. Reportedly with severely negative impacts upon the readiness and capabilities of the US armed forces.
Along with administration adopting a hideously grotesque fake "admiral", prancing about disgracing the uniform and country. There is a need for a major realignment and reconning within the DOD.
Recovering and rebuilding the US Armed Forces, or at least correcting the rouge elements, is essential for the US to continue being at all capable of assisting those in need around the world. First and foremost regaining capabilities for defending the US from current and emerging adversaries.
A lot (most?) of the preexisting American Capabilities have been notably eroded, debrided, some decimated. With much wasted and lost to foreign graft and corrupt giveaways. Though hopefully recoverable or rebuildable.
Definitely NOT a time for continued degradation of US Forces with more social experimentation, or the highly harmful injection experiments, while withholding medical care with the readily available, highly effective, existing treatments and therapeutics for viral infections.

I would be worried more about the active duty and Veterans that stormed the Capitol on 6Jan rather than someone being transgender. I'm also not a bigot.

Just a rhetorical question, what PT standard will men going to or identifying as female be held to, male or female? And a female going to or identifying as male be held to, male or female? Or will a lot more standards have to be created to be fair individuals, never mind real readiness? Just Asking.

Frankly, I don't care about anyone's politics, religion, social status, if they like/dislike NASCAR, country western, rock-n-roll, funk, soul, rap, hip/hop, black vs white vs asian vs indian vs chinese vs japanese vs mom, apple pie, or chevrolet! As long as we can all agree on shooting straight, who the real enemy is, and that we all hate jar heads, (Lol!)leave the pumps at the base, and we'll all get along fine! I could care less about all this bullshit. What I do care about though is having all this political posturing for political correctness crammed down my throat and up my ass just to be stylish. Just like the notion of having women Rangers! Right! In my day, our unit had gays, and we knew who they were. They pretty much kept their own and we never bothered them. In a firefight, we had their backs, and they had ours, brothers in arms when it counted the most. This "new breed" scares me and I'll tell you why. With transgenderism, just for the purpose of political posturing, we're openly giving credence to a known mental disorder - gender dysphoria. There are too many cases where this has panned out to be nothing more than criminal in nature and I for one would hate to see putting a rifle in the hands of an already unstable individual, and have him/her/she/it/they/them serve as back up to anyone with half a brain - even a Marine! Lol! I really do love those guys!! Long story though... If any of those doctors who say that this behavior is perfectly normal are willing to bet their collective lives on it, then I'm willing to get behind them. But, until they go to war with an unstable individual whose conflicted about their own gender, and knowing they have a thirty round weapon on full auto walking behind them, I wonder, are the doctors concentrated on their mission, or their beloved family and the pictures they have in their pockets knowing this may be the last time they ever see they because the nut job behind them may shoot at any moment because of the pressure alone and the internal conflict they're facing. I certainly don't mean for my words to offend anyone. I didn't have the luxury of growing up in a world of political correctness, I grew up in a world of total reality where live could sometimes be a total bitch, people you loved die, and even at my age, being a psychologist, I still deal with the dragon sometimes and no matter how hard I try, can't shake that 1000 yard stare and I consider myself pretty well adjusted. If you look at the other countries that are doing this with success, their transgenders all look like Olympic body builders pumped full of steroids. Ours look like men you'd expect to see in those 25 cent booths in porno houses with poor fitting wigs, 3 day no shave beards, and no sense of style, grace, or dress. And you want to represent our country in the next world war? Just understand first that people expect you to kill the enemy, possibly die for your country, and go on missions where no one will ever know where you were or what you did? My name is Sgt. Daniel Myers, US Army, Vietnam Vet, Psychologist, Independent Christian Minister, Doctor of Biblical Studies, Conservative Republican since birth, Native American (Cherokee Nation), heterosexual, definitely Christian, who has never been relieved from my Oath and will fight with my dying breath; so help me God! (Insert Lee Greenwood's Proud to be an American here)

Until we can put all this bullshit aside and just see soldiers, sailors and airmen it will always be a matter of when.

We don’t need transgender’s in our military period! Transgender is not a physical gender! There is NO SUCH THING AS TRANSGENDER! You were born a Man or Woman and that’s your gender! Like it or not! This shouldn’t even be a topic or for consideration! Get a grip people and quit giving in to these nuts who think they’re something that they are not!

Why has the military gone to more "gender-neutral" uniforms? Because no one cares what sex you are when you're in a foxhole or on the deck of an aircraft carrier. If you want to transition, leave the military, pay for the surgery yourself, and then reapply for military service. It's your conflict, not the military's.

Do we allow insulin-dependent diabetics to serve? Seriously, any need for ongoing medical tx should be a bar to military service.

SGT Daniel Myers
Why? I'm not trying to shoot up in your bathroom am I? I'm not trying to change in your restrooms! Would it be okay with you if I did, or if I changed my clothes while your daughters were in there? How would your husband feel about that? Is he as liberal as you are too? What other types of medication dependent people should we disallow from military service? Did you know some of the very people you want to disallow from military service; say those with PTSD, non-specific mental disorders that call for ongoing depression or anxiety medications, make perfect policemen and sheriff deputies? You'd be surprised by the large number of law enforcement who are former military with combat experience who have issues.....
